SUMMARY

In this study, the authors gathered the data through questionnaire, personal observations, and interviews with library professionals working in Central Library and literature available along with library records and reports. It has been observed that library is especially deficient of professional staff and generally Para-professional staff. Presently, one Deputy Librarian and two Assistant Librarians are working. In those two, one is responsible for departmental Libraries situated in Central Library, while other is serving in Reference section. One Deputy Librarian has also charge of huge collection of Institute of Management Sciences Collection. Due to this acquisition section has been working without direct supervision of professional staff. Technical section has also not been

operational, technical processes are done by different sections. Most of space is under use of other department, library is facing housing problems also. Many idiosyncrasies could only be removed through appointment of Professional staff in Central Library. Reference section has also not updated reference material, encyclopedias and other reference tools are editions of 90s. Non reference material is also kept, which need to be weeded. Periodical section required organization and proper arrangement. In computer internet lab, most of computers are not working properly. General collection has also been using as reference material, and not to be issued. Internet disconnection and power supply is also creating trouble and readers are facing difficulties. No arrangements for preservation of rare material as well as newspaper collection. Rare books collection is also not working properly, because there is no person available for providing services. Functions of every institution, revolves around manpower, financial resources and material resources. It is essential that deficiency in any one will creates trouble and lack of services. This library has been facing all these three problems from the beginning. Acquisition, Periodical and Technical Section are working without professional staff up till now. Central acquisition system is also a major problem, and due to this purchased reading material kept in this section for a long time. Due to lack of funds, reference material has not been updated and current literature has not been added. New textbooks have not been included. Library is already facing space problem and volumes of newspaper are also creating trouble. Professional staff may be increased for prompt services. Adequate financial resources should be provided to library for updating present material and increasing current literature. Hard and soft copies of Journals may be subscribed for current awareness of readers and researchers. Digitalization of rare material and Newspaper has been required on urgent basis. Standard Software for automation may be purchased and repeated experiments should be avoided. New technology should be provided and latest computers should also be added.
