1 Revision Information
This document has been revised to revision B due to editorial changes.

2 Description
This feature will increase the data rate by 50% for transparent data in circuit switched data calls in a network, compared to the standard 9.6 rate. The increase is slightly less for non-transparent data. The high increase is achieved by having a higher data rate per timeslot in all circuit switched data applications, both for single and multi timeslot configurations. As the data rate increase works with the existing types of transmission, the increase in throughput is available to all types of data services. On single timeslot transmission the rate will increase from 9.6 kbit/s to 14.4 kbit/s for transparent data (13 kbit/s for nontransparent data). In circuit switched multislot services, the maximum data rate will increase from 38.4 to 57.6 kbit/s on the radio interface for transparent data. To achieve these higher rates a new channel coding, with less protection, is applied on the radio interface.

3 Data Transcript Impacts

3.1 General
This feature requires that the operator has at least one transcoder pool that only consists of TRA R4 or/and TRA R5/R5B. The feature requires better transmission quality than 9.6 kbit/s, therefore the feature shall be disabled for cells with low radio quality. The feature is activated per BSC by setting an Exchange property and on individual cells with the command RLDRC. When the feature is activated in the BSC all cells have by default the maximum data rate set to 14.4 kbit/s. Mobile support is also required for this feature.

3.2 Traffic DT - BSC Exchange Properties

Activation of the feature in the BSC
RAEPC:PROP=MAXCHDATARATE-144;

3.3 Subfile 85xxx - Cell Data

Activation of the feature in a cell
RLDRC:CELL=KISTA1A, CMDR=144;

4 Miscellaneous Information

Non-Transparent Service: A non transparent service has error correction procedures. This ensures a negligible error rate, but an unknown throughput rate for the subscriber. Transparent Service: A transparent service does not have any error correction procedures or any flow-control. This ensures a fixed throughput rate but an unknown error rate.
