Instructional Objective(s) Criteria:


Students will be able to correctly count down from 10 at the conclusion of the lesson.

Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Students will be assessed 3 times during this lesson. First they will be assessed individually by asking students to demonstrate counting down from 10. An informal assessment will be observed and noted by the teacher during the lesson when students participate in the Ten Turkeys in a Pen activity as well as the book Ten, Nine, Eight, by Molly Bang. After the lesson students will be assessed in their small groups on their ability to correctly count backwards from the number 10.

Materials/Resources: SmartBoard- 10 Turkeys in a pen http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=a5897af1-f67b-4df3-91a4-1d9260ebcf3f Ten, Nine, Eight by: Molly Bang Crayons Number coloring sheet Number plates above the board Cup of popsicle stick names

Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): Students should prior ability to count from 1 to 10. References: http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=a5897af1-f67b-4df3-91a41d9260ebcf3f Procedures:
1. I will ask all students to come to the rug and remind them how we behave during lessons. 2. I will introduce the lesson by having the class as a whole count from 1 to 10. 3. Using the number plates above the board I will ask the class to count backwards from 10 when I point to each number. We will do this several times.

4. The smartboard activity Ten Turkeys in a Pen is introduced and the directions are given 5. After reading the rhyme in the activity students will be called to move a turkey if their name is picked from the cup of popsicle sticks with students names on them. 6. Once the activity is completed as a group we will count down from 10 to 0 several more times. 7. I will then introduce and read the book, Ten, Nine, Eight. 8. We will again count down from 10. 9. I will then close whole group by instructing students on the order in which small groups will be held as well as modeling what will be asked of them during that time. 10. My small group will be a continuation of this lesson, each group of students sit around the kidney shaped table in front of me. 11. Laid in front of the students will be a coloring page of numbers 0 to 10. Students will color these to keep them busy while I do the individual assessment within the small groups. 12. Before I begin my post assessment as a small group we will review the counting backwards from 10 together. 13. I will then begin assessing each student individually on their ability to count down from 10 to 0.

Accommodations:
Students who want extra time completing the numbers coloring sheet will be able to take it to the art station during center time. Students who need to be monitored closely by the teacher will be seated close to the teacher during whole group instruction and or small group. If a student does not grasp the method of counting backwards they can be moved to Ms. Kristen or Mrs. Susan for future help.
