Suda is a Byzantine encyclopaedia of the ancient authors btu we have found that it is very inconsistent. Ixeutica: about catching birds There apparently was an Ixeutica but we only have the title none of the text. Both texts were mythological works for the most part but they were not mythologically what we would expect. In Cyngetica we have the Heracles myth where Apamea on the Orontes was infatuated with a nymph and would chase her. Heracles had to get a big club knock a hole in the mountain so that the water could escape and free the nymph. It alludes to irrigation Interpretatio Graeco: take a local myth and understand it in Roman terms Didactic epics: poems that are designe to teach you how to do something e.g.Oppian (Ixeutica, Halieutica, Cynegetica), Ovid (Ars Amatoria, Remeia Amores, Medicamina Faciei), Virgil (Georgica), Lucretius (De Rerum Natura) and Hesiod (Works and Days). Callimachus wrote Ateia and set the standard for four books. Oppian Halieutica He describes fishing as better than hunting or catching birds. This is due to hunting being pleasurable and more dangerous. Claims that fishing is harder work and therefore more rewarding to the person. Fowling is better because it is easier to see what you are hunting. Cynegetica Oppian is having a conversation with Artemis. He is praising Antonius saying that his mother and father is blessed. She continuously tells Oppian that he cannot talk about things and he says no I will not discuss this. Designed to be a response to the other Oppian as he lists the virtues of hunting on land compared to the sky and sea. He then lists the requirements that would make a good hunter by describing a young man that is swift and lean but strong. He says that sandals and clothes distracts and alert the animals to your presence and so it is better to hunt without such items. Recusatio: poem that starts by saying what it wont be discussing Lucius Flavius Arriamus Xenophon

He wrote the Anabasis in the Attic dialect which consisted of several books. When the Parthians were finally defeated they were able to have more contact with India generating a lot of interest from the Roman people Arrian Indica Dionysus is a cultural figure that has been taken so that they can understand it in Roman terms here and he is shown to be followe by these Indian tribes that may have been originally Greeks.
