The Danger Art Rage Erotic International Video Project will have his worldwide debut at the 4th IN and OUT Festival held in Gdansk (Poland). Festival is focused on works that seeks to nd innovative formal and aesthetic solutions and invited the D.A.R.E Project to open this years edition of the event as special foreign curational show.

The D.A.R.E. is a brand new project exploring the notion of radical beauty aiming to overcome the usual criticism of social construction of beauty, mostly regarding the representations of the human soul in media. It seeks also to promote the ideals of aesthetic limits of video within a plural context as well visually expressing the confrontation of reality and society.

The presentation is set in two session of half-an-hour happening next 21st and 22nd of October 2010 by 16h00 at the ania Center for Contemporary Art and it will be open to everyone. The line-up contemplates 15 videos from 12 artists who worked already on the given subject established by a selective and restrictive invitation policy to accomplish the rst year program: Vienne Chan (Hong-Kong); William Esdale (Northern Ireland); Danny Germansen (Denmark); Michael Douglas Hawk (UK); Luca Curci (Italy); Fabiana Roscioli (Italy); Niclas Hallberg (Sweden); Anders Weberg (Sweden); Stina Pehrsdotter (Sweden); Paul Rascheja (Poland); Micha Brzeziski (Poland) and Alberto Guerreiro (Portugal).

Is also programmed the founder and curator presence for a short communication regarding D.A.R.E. Project before the screening.

Some might say, according to Kant's famous analysis, that aesthetic is experienced when our perceptual- interpretive processes do not manage to decode their input in terms of pre-existing concepts but nonetheless display a meaningful kind of coherence. This suggests that worthwhile art provides the spectator with perceptually ambiguous and indenite inputs and avoids the straightforward expression of unequivocal ideas. Almost all artistic genres indeed work that way. But what about one grounding the limits of art? The thrill? By the other end, beauty is a cultural creation that expresses most of all dominant values. In the new millennium this values are in fact extremely commercialized and manipulated by political ways or mass media purposes. This way, one aesthetic on the edge of the limits of video art can be viewed as an artistic creation that expresses the desire of change in society. Likewise, radical beauty can change dominant values through action and creation, only achieved by the experience of new practices and the expression of new ideals.

ON RADICAL BEAUTY

From radical beauty we want to overcome the usual criticism of social construction of beauty, mostly regarding the representations of the human soul in media. The radical beauty turns to be a theme but also a communication approach mechanism and therefore it is needed to focus the concept into specic problems/issues materialized through video.

This way the D.A.R.E. Project is committed to bring to the public quality creative art movies with radical beauty assent. It seeks to promote the ideals of the aesthetical limit of video within a plural context and that by this way visually expresses the basis of the confrontation between reality and society on an artistic level. The project will work toward to show multisided views of it through the art form of video and lm expressed creatively and critically. It aims to promote the use of moving image involving broad audiences in an open debate about these new facing challenges. In this rst year, the D.A.R.E. Project will focus on videos and artists who already worked on the given subject.

The international events debut will happen in the 4th edition of the IN and OUT Festival, held in Gdansk (Poland), based on a selective and restrictive invitation policy to accomplish the rst year program.

Paul Rascheja was born in 1975 in Treuburg (Poland), he studied at the Academy of Arts in Gdansk and decided to focus on the medium of video. In 2001 he moved to Berlin where he works as a graphic and motion designer for advertising agencies and lm companies such as MTV and VIVA. Since 2009 he has focused on his own projects, creating several video, lms, images and sculptures. A common motif in Pauls work is the human being: a highly developed, primitive and brutal animal that possesses intellect and reason yet nevertheless is aggressive and unpredictable. The artist shows the raw, primordial and non-domesticated nature of the human being in haunting, painfully exaggerated images. He reaches to the limit of what is bearable, often overstepping it and breaking taboos as well as provoking at the same time. His work can be characterised by a dark, morbid atmosphere: a combination of a nightmare, chaos and deathly order. His videos are captivating and disturbing: they bribe you with radical views, cryptic details and unexpected turns. They are idiosyncratic and grotesque, critical of society, subversive and political. Childhood experiences and

surreal dream worlds play a mayor role here.

This lm gives an example of the recorded relation among a video camera, body and nature. During the walk, the camera lacked any control of the eye over the image. Camera had recorded the natural landscape with the big zoom and very fast shutter speed, controled by the subjective and dynamic human organism. Hand directed the lens intuitively, and only during the computer editing the most interesting and dynamic parts were selected and combined with timeshifting or negative effects [basic for the lm in itself]. This performative action is part of a theoretical discourse of structural lm, the Polish analytical vision of structural lm, and British landscape-structural lm. In the context of video performance, this video doesnt save the artists image, but his bodily impulses.

Michal Brzezinski is an artist and video theoretician. His work combines the tradition of video art and experimental cinema and is a reection on the phenomenon of identity in the world of the new media. In order to dene video art and describe its functioning in society, he introduces the notions of VIRUSVIDEO.

As a multi disciplinary artist William work challenges many different subjects including the human body, society, culture, politics, mass media, censorship and most recently lm and cinema. In his work, deconstruct a given perception based on how we see and use visual forms using multi-channel video installation. Psychology and the human condition in works of art have always interested and inspired William Esdale. This fascination arises when the viewer interacts with public or private space. Absence is an artistic lm and photographic study focused on the psychological consequences of a family having to embrace and come to terms with the ongoing mental and physical decline of a matriarch. Esdale mother also has a long history of mental illness which includes bipolar, obsessive compulsive disorder, alcoholism and social anxiety. All of which resulted in the prescribing of mental health medication of varying kinds and strengths of half her life. The effect of his mothers condition on family has left a very complicated dynamic. Father and sister are now his mothers primary carers. They have their own emotional/mental health issues and learning difculties. As a result at times they nd it extremely difcult to cope with the emotional and physical needs of my mothers demanding and degenerative condition.

DARE will be combine with this year festival main competition along with the premiere of the new Micha Brzeziskis video work FILM.

IN-OUT Festival will take place in ania CCA for the 4th time. Just like the year before - it

will be open to everyone.

Festival is focused on selecting the most interesting video works, that seek to nd innovative formal and aesthetic solutions.

Nowadays video is a commonly used method of recording various actions, and, thanks to internet, it can be regarded as a general eld of discussion (i.a. discourses on art). Ordinary, trivial and simple usage of this tool in different functional contexts happens to make language of video clear these times. The main aim of the festival is to search for these works, that through the knowledge of different contexts of video art, try to bring new qualities to its functional and well-known form. Works promoted at festival are characterized by lack of plot.

Major emphasis is put on showing aesthetic features resulting from technological aspects of the same picture. So, all that seem to be an error in the video is brought to reection according to the rule BAD FILM = GOOD ART.

Festival is planned to explore contemporary methods of describing the world: through video picture itself- and not literary layer hidden inside.
