American Association of School Librarians Standards: 4 Pursue personal and aesthetic growth. 4.1.1 Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth. 4.1.5 Connect ideas to own interests and previous knowledge and experience. 4.2.1 Display curiosity by pursuing interests through multiple resources. 4.2.2 Demonstrate motivation by seeking information to answer personal questions and interests, trying a variety of formats and genres, and displaying a willingness to go beyond academic requirements. 2. Target Audience The target age of the audience for my digital video is 5 to 9-year-olds. The video will be targeted to students from all cultural backgrounds at Nahunta Primary School, a rural school made up of 93% Caucasian, 4% African-American, and 2% Hispanic students. The educational level of the students is kindergarten through third graders. The specific entry skills the audience will already have will include a basic knowledge of how a school media center operates and the knowledge that the media center contains different types of information. The learning styles of the target audience are primarily visual and auditory. The motivation using the ARCS model includes: (1) Attention The audience will be interested in the video because it will contain their peers, students their own age, and teachers they know. (2) Relevance The video will be relevant to the students at Nahunta Primary because it will be filmed at their school and will show how they can discover more about subjects they are interested in within their own media center, (3) Confidence Upon viewing the video, students should feel confident that they can go to the library with a subject they are interested in and find appealing books, and (4) Satisfaction Students will find enjoyment in learning more about their favorite subjects at their school media center. The purpose of the video will be to motivate students to read for enjoyment and personal growth and to visit the media center to find books on topics of interest to them outside of their classroom studies. 3. Learning Objective Upon viewing a video that promotes recreational reading and reading for personal growth, students will visit the media center to find at least three books to read on one topic of interest to them including books from the easy section, the non-fiction section, and the fiction section when appropriate.
