REFLECTION

Throughout the process of designing and producing the lesson, I have encountered many problems. First, we are assigned to prepare a 60 minute lesson plan to teach reading and vocabulary. I have problem in determining which approach and technique to be used in the lesson plan. After discussing with other group members, we decided that we will use the Big Book approach by using shared reading technique. I am quite satisfied with the choices as I found it easy for us to design activities afterwards. Next, during the planning, I once again, was having problem in adapting the activities so that the activities suit the students level. For me, this is one of the most difficult tasks in designing a lesson plan. I realize that if the activities do not suit the students level, the lesson plan will be a failure. During the oral presentation, I am rather unsatisfied with my performance. First is because, I did not read the question carefully and therefore my presentation lacked of the information needed. Besides, I did not make a reference to the lesson plan during the presentation, and thus the audience were unable to correlate my presentation with the lesson plan. There was also some strength that I can identify during the process of designing the lesson plan. One of them is that, I made some researches on the approaches and technique before planning the lesson; therefore I am able to relate the approach with the activities. I am mostly satisfied with the activities in the prereading stage where shared reading is being implied. Next, I believe we have managed to sequence the activities in a way where we can see the flow of the activities. Other than that, my group members and I have managed to adapt the original material into a dialogue strips. As the materials are going to be used by the year 1 students, I made sure that the dialogues are simple and repetitive so that it will suit the students level. During the oral presentation, there was not much strength that I can identify. One of the strengths that I can see is that I managed to state the rationale of the lesson. Other than that is, the rationales are parallel to our lesson plan which shows that it is related to the lesson plan somehow. Overall, I have learnt many new things during this period. Through this assignment, I have learnt to identify the suitable curriculum specification related to the lesson. Besides, I also learnt that the objectives need to be written in a

behavioural term and that all the activities being planned must be designed in a way that the objectives can be achieved. Most importantly, I have gain new knowledge on big book approach and shared reading method, and at the same time ways to implement the approach and method. The activities must also be sequenced in order and step by step. After I have finished my assignment, I have reflected on ways to improve my weaknesses. First, I should read the question carefully before preparing the presentation slides. This is, to be general means; I have to be more precise, exact, and careful when reading questions. Finally, as for the problem where we are having problems in adapting the activities with the students level, it can be resolved through doing some researches on its effectiveness. Another way is by discussing the activity with the lecturer and asking for her opinions.
