PROJECT WEEK TWO Groups to present research from previous week and finalise their list of landforms for the road trip. Rocks and minerals Geography on World Heritage sites Start planning the itinerary -Map the landforms on a map -Decide on what is the best route to take to visit all the landforms -Calculate the distance from one landform to the another -Work out best mode of transport by comparing times for road vs flight transportation -Work out when the excursion will take place (refer to climate data) Fill in an itinerary proforma PROJECT WEEK THREE Present itinerary proforma to the class Work out transport costs Types of rocks and rock cycle Geography on World Heritage sites Research accommodation and landform visit costs and add them to the itinerary

Term 4 project Road Trip

Plan the ultimate school excursion!

Do you like holidays? Do you like going on school camps? Do you like school excursions? Now its your chance to plan the ultimate holiday/camp/excursion!

Challenge - What will the ultimate school road trip to Australias natural wonders be like?
What you will need to do:
Work in a group of three or four. Choose where you will visit and what you would do. Would you go snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef or go to underground caves in Jenolan Caves? Justify the places you have chosen for your road trip. What can you learn about science or geography from visiting these places? Work out the itinerary for the road trip. Work out the cost of the trip per student.

What you will need to hand in: As a group A proposed list of landforms for the road trip describing why each landform is worth visiting according to its scientific and/or geographic significance A draft itinerary of the road trip incorporating the landforms chosen for the road trip. A presentation to the excursions panel on the road trip
All work completed during the project in the provided project folder

As an individual
An explanation report on how one of the landforms of the road trip formed overtime

What will happen to your project? In Term 4 Week 7 your group will present your proposed school road trip to an excursions panel which will include Ms Leung and other members of the school. The excursions panel will decide on the best proposal and make that an excursion in 2013 when you are in Year 8. Refer to the marking criteria on what makes the best proposal.

Marking Criteria Grade A

The chosen landforms for the road trip are justified by referring to its environmental, historical and/or cultural significance. An in-depth understanding of concepts in science and geography is demonstrated. The itinerary proposed has reasonable travel times. Working out for the travel times are clearly explained. The costing for the itinerary is accurate. Working out for the costs are clearly explained. The presentation involves a suitable medium and persuades the audience that this road trip is the best in terms of feasibility and educational value.
