Introduction:
It is said that the obstacles in life may be overcome by chanting this
suktam. In many places in the Rig Veda we come across verses, in praise of
the God of fire. In Taitreya Upanishad, these verses are combined into a
prayer called the Durga Suktam.

j tave dase sunavma soma -martya to nida hti veda |
Oh Lord of fire we offer to thee the oblations of Soma. May He, the God of
fire burn the impediments that arise in our lives.

Just as a Boatman ferries others across the sea on a boat, may the God of
Fire protect us from all the perils and mistakes.

Oh the one who charges and vanquishes the host of enemies, the fierce one,
we invoke thee, from the highest place of assembly, the leader of all to reign

You, who are adored in sacrifices, multiply our joy. You are present among

May we realize Katyayani, the Sakthi (Primordial power). Let us meditate
