OBJECTIVE:

This course will introduce students to the field of business and management and the role business plays in our society. The course offers an overview of basic business and management concepts, terminology, institutions, practices, and operations. It examines the various aspects of business management and their relationships with each other. Apart from familiarizing the students with the knowledge of general business terms, concepts, and theories, this course will help provide them with an overview of the necessary skills and abilities needed to succeed in a business school.

Teaching Method:
Lectures, class participatory lectures, case studies, quizzes and team project. Two-way communication is desired and participative method is appreciated as well. Participants are expected to prepare for the sessions.

Quizzes:
Quizzes/Class Tests will be held on MCQ, fill in the blanks, true/false, short note & problem solving format. In total 3 quizzes will be taken. Out of 3 best 2 will be counted for grading purpose.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. 2. The midterm examination will be held on 27th June, 2010 on the scheduled class time. The final examination will be held as per university schedule. Three quizzes will be taken of which the best two will be used for grading purpose. The test will examine the topics previously covered in the lectures and assigned chapter readings. Remember that no make-up tests will be taken for quizzes . 3. 4. Students have to solve and submit the assigned business cases to explore the real world and problems associated with different business phenomena. You will be given a specific topic (in groups) to conduct your project work. The topic will be decided for each group after discussing with the students. There will be a presentation on the project. The presentation part of the project will carry 5% of total marks and report writing will carry 5%. The project report should be lucid and legibly computer-typed in word processor, printed out on A-4 size paper with the font Times New Roman; font size 12; 1.5 spaced; inserted page numbers; and except headings, the body of the text will be justified with 1 top & bottom and 1.25 left & right margin. The report should not exceed 25 pages in all. The cover page should have the names of team-members and needs to be highlighted. 5. All exams will be comprehensive. The format will be mixture of fill in the blanks, true-false identification and short questions. Both midterm and final exams will be closed book, closed notes and closed neighbor. 6. 7. It is extremely important to bring the textbook and the supplied materials in the class. Failure to bring the textbook in the class will result in deduction of marks. Participation during the class is essential. However, if a student does not attend at least 70% of the total classes, as per University policy s/he will not be allowed to take the final exam.
