procurement centers for their regional, Asian or even global operation. The latest news is about the plan of AEON from Japan, the biggest retailer in Asia and the 13th in the world, for its global sourcing center in Shenzhen. IBM Relocates Its Global Sourcing HQ to China Monday,October 16,2006 Posted: 06:24 BJT(2224 GMT) The Beijing Times IBM recently announced to relocate its global sourcing HQ to Shenzhen, China. It is the first time that IBM has placed the HQ of one business unit or department to somewhere outside the US. IBM Chief Purchasing Officer John says the reason for relocating the HQ to Shenzhen is largely a realization of Shenzhens advantages for purchasing. In Asia, IBM has over 1850 purchasing and logistic staff, many of whom are based in IBMs China Purchasing Center in Shenzhen. The center has run for over 10 years in China as IBMs largest purchasing unit outside the States. Having connections with over 3000 Asian suppliers, the center registers a purchasing volume about 30% of IBMs total annual expenditure of 40 billion USD

Shenzhen (shn`jn`), city (1994 est. pop. 695,600), S Guangdong prov., China, on the
South China Sea, N of Hong Kong. Designated a special economic zone in 1979, the city's spectacular economic growth led China to create over a dozen more similar areas. Benefiting from its strategic position next to Hong Kong, the city had (1992) the largest per capita income of any in China. Its manufactures include electronics, chemicals, processed foods, textiles, construction materials, and pharmaceuticals. It is 32km from the city centre (CBD) at Luohu District. It was opened on October 12, 1991, at 11349'E and 2236'N. It occupies an area of 10.8km. Its runway is 3400m long, and 45m wide, and it has 53 parking spaces on its apron. As of 2003, there are 148 domestic destinations and 11 international destinations. It handled 10 842 800 passengers, and 406 600 tonnes of cargo. It also has ferry routes to Hong Kong

History
The airline was established in October 1992 and started operations on 13 September 1993. It was formed by the CAAC and Shenzhen government, with financial participation by Air China, Overseas Chinese City Economic Development Corporation, Bank of China and Shenzen South Tongfa Industrial Corporation. It is one of the most profitable airlines in China. It is currently owned by Guangdong Development Bank (65%), CNAC (Air China) (25%) and Shenzen Investment Management (10%). In 2004 it founded, with German partners Lufthansa Cargo and DEG, the international cargo airline Jade Cargo International which will start operations in September 2005. Shenzhen Airlines owns a 51% stake in the cargo airline. On 10 June 2005 Boeing handed over the first Boeing 737-900 to Shenzen Airlines in Seattle. It was the first of five to be delivered during 2005 for operation on domestic and regional routes. Shenzen is the first Chinese airline to order the Boeing 737-900 and this is the airline's first direct delivery from Boeing (ref: Air International, July 2005).

Shenzhen develops Asia's largest animation industry

The Yijing National Cartoon and Animation Industry Base was opened here on May 19 as part of the Second China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industry Fair (ICIF) running from May 18 to 21. The animation industry of Shenzhen is developing rapidly during the recent years. At present, the output of the animation of Shenzhen ranks number one in Asia and fourth in the world.
