Executive Summary

To enhance effectiveness of Business Communication course, this report recommends adding the following topics to Business Communication course: To make classes more interactive. Emphasis more on free hand writing than MCQs. To swap the course in 4th year. To increase the time of course from 45 to 60 hours. To find the cause of students worst result though they are good in English.

The report discuss about most of the topics on the subject like, perfect using of words in communication, business letters, directness, indirectness in writings, long and short reports, using cell phone, organizing meetings. Business communication is one of the most effective courses that make students one step advance in their career and life. The way students have been thought was simply great. Every topic was successfully covered that were designed to.

AN EVALUATION OF BUSINESS COMMUNICATION


Introduction

1.0 Business:
Business is an organized approach to profiling customers with the goods or services they want. Most business seek to make a profit that is they aim to achieve revenues that exceed the cost of a operating a business.

2.0 Communication:
The process of sharing ideas, information, and messages with others in a particular time and place. Communication includes writing, talking, as well as nonverbal communication, visual communication, and electronic communication.

3.0 Business Communication:


That specific communication serves business purpose is Business Communication.

4.0 VIABILITY OF BUSINESS COMMUNICATION FOR


BIFT STUDENTS:
The world is running on business. Every country does business for its own servable. But they have different way to communicate. Business Communication is a guide to show them the best possible way to communicate. BIFT students are trained for Readymade garment (RMG) Sector. RMG is the most potential sector for Bangladesh and it holds the 76% of the total GDP. The products are export in mainly Western countries. Bangladesh needs expert people who can carry on this business and expend as more as possible. To ensure this BIFT student needs to learn Business Communication.

5.0 The main objectives of Business Communication:


The success of Business communication depends on some major topics;

5.1 Communication in organization:


The description of communication and management process in an organization is briefly explained in this course so that a student will not have any problem in their organization.

5.2 Techniques of writing:


Basic techniques of writing, writing process, especially clarity of writing and using correct word as the place demand. E-mail is briefly described here.

5.3 Patterns of business message:

Business messages could be direct and indirect depends on the reports characteristics, frankness and relation among readers and writers. And report could be personal or impersonal.

5.4 Report writing:


Report could be of many types depending on the situation in that is; shorter report, proposal, progress report, e-mail report. Long report like; analytical report demands complete coverage. Among them some of them were thought.

5.5 Other forms of Business communication:


Without writing there are many other forms of communication activities like meeting, telephoning, dictating, and listening as well as giving presentation.

5.6 Flexible and customized attitude for other culture:


To communication with cross-culture people different modified, reachers, methods is important.

Business communication is one of the most effective courses that make students one step advance in their career and life. The way students have been thought was simply great. Every topic was successfully covered that were designed to.

Recommendations

Classes have to be more interactive:


By organizing meeting, report presentation, letter presentation the classes could make more interactive. So that students could learn easily.

More emphasize on free hand writing than MCQs:


Business communication is a kind of subject that needs to practice a lot, so free hand writing is needed very much. When answering MCQs sometimes students get confused with the right answer. They may mix-up answer. Sometimes it happens that students, who had only few classes, get 9/10 out of 10 by answering MCQs randomly.

To swap the course in 4th year:


The course is mostly related to job. So this course should be offered at 6th or 7th semester. If the course is swapped it will be more effective.

To increase the time of course from 45 to 60 hours:


This course is so important that only 45 class hours is not enough. There was not time for short reports like; letter report, email report. Some students even do not have any e-mail account (please see appendix for more information). So this course should increase to 60 hours. As National University do not approved four credit, there could be hidden hours to add.

To find the cause of students worst result though they are good in English:
People are not doing well in business communication though they did well in English in 1st and 2nd semester (please see appendix for more).
