In preparation for a segment on forgiveness in our All Church Study, I came across a wonderful blog where the author posted several quotes that illuminate the power of forgiveness. I hope they are as inspiring to you as they were to me. Then Peter came and said to him, Lord, if another member of the church sins against me, how often should I forgive? As many as seven times? 22Jesus said to him, Not seven times, but, I tell you, seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22 6 Timeless Thoughts on Forgiveness 1. Forgiveness sets you free. When you hold resentment toward another, you are bound to that person or condition by an emotional link that is stronger than steel. Forgiveness is the only way to dissolve that link and get free. Catherine Ponder 2. Forgive yourself. The remarkable thing is that we really love our neighbour as ourselves: we do unto others as we do unto ourselves. We hate others when we hate ourselves. We are tolerant toward others when we tolerate ourselves. We forgive others when we forgive ourselves. We are prone to sacrifice others when we are ready to sacrifice ourselves. Eric Hoffer 3. Remember to forgive everyone. We read that we ought to forgive our enemies; but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends. Sir. Francis Bacon 4. When you forgive, really forgive. A forgiveness ought to be like a canceled note, torn in two and burned up, so that it can never be shown against the man. Henry Ward Beecher Most of us can forgive and forget; we just dont want the other person to forget that we forgave. Ivern Ball 5. Forgiveness is not a weakness. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. Mahatma Gandhi Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart. Corrie Ten Boom 6. With forgiveness the future may become brighter than your dreams. Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future. Paul Boose If you have not signed up for the All Church Study, you can still join a small group and take part in this very meaningful small group experience. This years All Church Study explores different prayer practices. No matter how you approach prayer, you will benefit from this study!

Please Note - Important Information

If you have information that you would like the congregation to see (posters for offerings, CROP Walk, etc.), it needs to be approved by church staff ( Donna, Darrell or Debra) and we will put them up in order to not damage the finish on the windows. Also, you will find notepaper, pencils and a box for notes for the office on the counter. Please write a note, put any information in the box that you would like Darrell, Debra or Donna to know so they can handle during the week. Thank you for your assistance in helping our church staff have a pleasant experience on Sunday.

Supporting our Brothers and Sisters in Owensboro, KY

On Monday, March 18 in the early morning hours First Christian Church in Owensboro, KY was struck by lightening and began to burn. Despite a quick response from the fire department, the church burned for the entire day, and the whole building was a loss. There is such pain in a loss of the space, a building that was over 100 years old. Generations had grown up walking those halls, singing in that space, loving Jesus and sharing in communion at their table. They have secured a temporary home to worship in, but they put out a call for hymnals so that they could sing from the Chalice Hymnal on Easter Sunday. The Chalice Hymnal is no longer being printed, so they needed congregations from across the country to help them out. Our Congregation sent 2 Chalice Hymnals to them with our name and a short message of support written inside the front cover. They had an amazing outpouring of love from all over the country, and on Easter Sunday part of their service involved people calling out the names of where their hymnals were from! If you would like to send a letter or gift of support to this congregation, I know they would appreciate the love and support. You can mail to them at their temporary office: First Christian Church 725 Daviess Street Owensboro, KY 42303 Thank you for your love and support of our brothers and sister in Kentucky!

Another Thank You

We have received a very beautiful thank you from Joan Walker of the Alzheimers Association thanking all of our Senior Adults who hosted a wonderful special service for those affected with Alzheimers and other forms of dementia and their caregivers. The card is posted on the bulletin board. Stop by and read it in its entirety.

Senior Adults Meeting, Tues., April 16

The Seniors meet Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 12 noon for our monthly luncheon and meeting. Our guest this month will be Matt Davis, our former accompanist. Matt has offered musical programs the past few years for our seniors and has graciously agreed to come again this year. In the past Matt has featured several of his voice students and he and the students have entertained us. This year will be a little different. Matt is not currently teaching as many students since he is back taking classes himself. One area of study has been the organ and this year we are going to be able to enjoy the fruits of this enhanced study. He will feature pieces by Cesar Franck, Paul Halley and Johann Sebastian Bach. My next article will list them for you. Anyone who enjoys organ music is more than welcome to join us on Tues, April 16. We meet in Chapman Lounge and enjoy our sack lunches and fellowship, and then we will move to the Sanctuary for the program. If you can only attend the program it will begin around 12:30 pm. We hope to see you there.

Easter Offering Report

We came close to reaching our $1,000 goal for the 2013 Easter Offering. A total of $581.06 was received for the Easter Offering on Easter Sunday. Adding this amount to the total received on previous Sundays in March, $314.00, we received a total of $895.06 for this year's Easter Offering. This is a good increase over the amount given in support of the 2012 Easter Offering, $764.25. We are grateful for your gifts, which will undergird the worldwide ministries of the General Units of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Outreach Ministry

Crop Walk Set For April 28th

The 2013 edition of Fullerton's CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, April 28. The walk will begin and end at the Plaza next door to our Fellowship Hall. Walkers will go to Harbor from the Plaza and then south to Orangethorpe, west to Highland, then with a slight jog to go by the Distribution Center of Pathways of Hope, north to Chapman, east on Chapman to Harbor before going south to Wilshire and east back to the Plaza. The CROP Hunger Walk raises funds to benefit hungry men, women and children through the many service centers of Church World Service found throughout the world. To encourage strong local support for these important ministries, Church World Service gives 25% of the funds raised in each local CROP Hunger Walk to a hunger ministry in that community. In Fullerton, that ministry is Pathways of Hope. Gifts in support of the Fullerton CROP Hunger Walk will be divided 75% and 25% between Church World Service and Pathways of Hope. You are invited to support our congregation's participants in the 2013 CROP Hunger Walk with a gift that you give to one, or more, of them directly, or by a gift you give online. To give online go to www.churchworldservice.org. Then, in succession, click on CROP Hunger Walks, followed by clicks on the state of California, the Fullerton Walk and the First Christian Church team. You may then make a gift in the name of one of our team members. As of now, thes following persons are participating in the 2013 CROP Hunger Walk representing our church: Youth: Debra Todd, Janelle Vannoy Kyle Fought, Melissa Fought, Laura CairnsFought, Melody Martinez, Jennine Martinez and Reid Richmond. We're Invited To Loch Leven On April 13

A dream of many people in the PSW Regional Church has been the refurbishing of Campbell Lodge at the Loch Leven Conference Center. During the 1970s, or early 1980s, the Fire Marshall determined that this Lodge could only be used for group meetings in the main downstairs room due to it being a fire hazard. Until new cabins were built, in the mid-80s the size of groups going to Loch Leven had to be curtailed due to the loss of the use of the upstairs rooms of the Lodge for sleeping. All of that is about to change now. On Saturday, April 13, the Camp and Conference Committee of the Regional Church is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the refurbishing of Campbell Lodge. The event begins at 11:30 A.M. If you've been to Loch Leven, you know what an exciting development this is for this beloved mountain retreat. If you've never been to Loch Leven, attending this event would be a good introduction for you to our Conference Center. We understand that the refurbished Campbell Lodge should be ready for use in about a year. Groups will be able to book the facility for use as a self-contained retreat center, including ample places for overnight or weekend stays, plus having access to a kitchen and a comfortable dining area. It will be a great place for future retreats for our congregation. The majority of the funding for this project, we understand, is coming from some of the funds realized by the sale of the historic Wilshire Christian Church. It was located at the corner of Wilshire and Normandie in Los Angeles since the 1920s and was built on land donated by one C.C. Chapman and his family. That makes another Fullerton connection to this major project in our Region. The Outreach Ministry

From our Associate Pastor, Debra Todd

This time of year is absolutely one of my favorites. When I walk out my front gate right now there are little shoots sticking up out of the ground, the promise of beautiful flowers soon to bloom (I'd love to tell you the name, but I don't know as gardening isn't my gift, they are a mixture of purple and white flowers though). We just celebrated the beginning of spring, and we are lucky here on the West Coast that we actually have experienced spring! Last week of course, we also began our celebration of Easter! The resurrection of Jesus Christ, the new life and excitement. Everything is brimming with new life and I can't help but get caught up in the excitement of it all! There is something new beginning for our church as well. Our emergent worship service, which has been at 9 A.M., is moving to a new time and location. Our service, REFRESH will now be at 7:30 P.M. in the Sanctuary! We have an amazing group of individuals who have been working hard on this new venture. We are so excited to have some new legs to stand onbut part of learning to walk means taking a lot of extra time and energy. With this change, you may notice that it seems like I am not at the 10:15 A.M. service as much for the next few months. Beginning in April, I will be coming down in time for youth group and staying through the 7:30 P.M. service. I encourage you to come and support this new service and experience a different way to worship. You will still see me around, I will be preaching the 10:15 service once every month, and I am in the office on Monday and Wednesday during the week, and I would love to have coffee or lunch with you! During this spring season, what places have you observed new life beginning? Is there a way that you can get involved and help something new to stand? Do you want to find a new way to be involved in the 7:30 P.M. service, even as someone who spends time in prayer at home at 7:30 P.M. for those of us experiencing the service together in the Sanctuary? Our community at FCC has so many wonderful things going on. Get involved in the All- Church Study and learn some prayer practices that maybe you have never experienced. New life is all around; open your eyes and heart to the promise that brings us!
