GROW UP 1 Corinthians 13:11 when I became a man, I put away childish things.

On the first glance at this scripture, one might think that this verse has absolutely nothing to do with love. I mean, really; what does growing up have to do with true love? Well lets talk about this for a moment. Many of us are growing up without reaching maturity. Our bodies qualify us to be called an adult, but we are still thinking on a child-like level. As a matter of fact, because we live in a sea of chemicals that have caused childrens bodies to mature early, the world is in an even more devastating state that it once was. Girls bodies are developing and they are beginning their menstruation at an earlier age. Boys are more aggressive and fathering while they are still just kids themselves. But their minds are still child-like. Children are killing parents and grandparents over little or nothing at all. We grow up and make adult choices, but cant understand why when we choose to do something horrific or even just plain stupid, why we have to pay the consequences. What is going on with all this?

"...when I became a man I put away childish things" - I Cor. 13:11 The unfortunate reality of today's world is that many men are reaching adulthood without having reached maturity. There is now a generation of men struggling to cope with life and decisions that go along with it. Walking in fear and out of fellowship with God, they are easily turned to illusionary comforts of medicating themselves through substances and destructive relationships. These things are self-reinforcing because they cause pain and thereby increase the need for comfot and coping. This has been one of the most effective strategies of the enemy toward men and women Everyday, countless people are walking into this destructive cycle. But Praise be to God, everyday others are walking out. When the desperateness of their plight snaps them back to reality they become equally desperate to have someone show them the way. For those who turn to Jesus Christ and become willing to do whatever it takes, victory is assured. Jesus Christ can and will set you free. Shiloh Ministries is a one-year, residential, discipleship, Bible training program established in 2000 by Rocky Fondren for men 18 years and older who are coming out of and being delivered from an addiction to drugs and/or alcohol as well as other types of abusive lifestyles. The word "Shiloh" is a prophetic old testament name of Christ (Gen 49:10). It means "TO WHOM DOMINION BELONGS". Jesus Christ came not only to die for our sins, but to empower us to have dominion over sin. It is not God's intention for any man to live in bondage to any created thing. Jesus Christ came to set us free and he who the Son sets free is free indeed. Here at Shiloh we have prepared ourselves to receive these men in an environment of love and discipline. Our staff works diligently to provide an atmosphere where clearly-defined expectations are tempered with nurturing love. We insist that our students put away the childish things that make for irresponsible and rebellious behavior and, by instruction in righteousness, help them to walk through life in the power and dominion they have been given as a new man in Christ according to God's Word.
