www.ctcmpao.on.ca Ontario TCM/A Regulation: TCM Act to be proclaimed on April 1, 2013

During the preparatory year in registering as members of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO), CMAAC in Ontario has provided workshops on the safety program and jurisprudence program for members with English difficulties. Translating is very difficult but we are thankful for few of our members who took this challenging task to make this project successful. Lately, CMAAC has collaborated with the TCM associations in Ontario in providing workshops, in English and Chinese, on how to fill in the registration application form for the TCM community in Ontario. The Power Point Guide to Grandparented Application Form can be found on our website www.cmaac.ca under News and Updates OR Ontario Regulation Resources. As we now take a big step in our profession as regulated health professionals, we will continue to improve our collaboration with other TCM and Acupuncture associations across Canada in promoting our profession, providing continuing education, and advocate for our members on issues involving professional development. On top of that, we will continue to assist other provinces such as Manitoba, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia to become the next regulated provinces in Canada. Over 30 years of volunteer work for recognition as a health profession. We have definitely come a long way! 2013 4 1 CMAAC www.cmaac.ca News & Updates , 30

Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Strengthening Safe, Regulated Traditional Chinese Medicine New Ontario Government Regulating Health Care Options March 22, 2013 01:00 PM
Ontario is making traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture services safer by ensuring that only regulated and qualified practitioners deliver these services. Starting April 1, 2013, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture practitioners need to be registered with and accountable to the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario. The college will oversee and regulate the profession to ensure patients receive safe, high quality health care services. Traditional Chinese medicine originated several thousand years ago and includes the use of herbal therapy, acupuncture, tuina massage, and therapeutic exercise. Ensuring access to safe quality health care for the people of Ontario is part of the province's Action Plan for Health Care. QUOTES "Traditional Chinese medicine plays an important and valuable role in the health and well-being of many Ontarians. This legislation ensures the public has the choice of regulated and qualified practitioners who are accountable to a regulatory body." - Deb Matthews Minister of Health and Long-Term Care "The new College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario is committed to putting public safety first in regulating the practice of traditional Chinese medicine. The college will ensure Ontarians receive quality health care services by practitioners who possess the knowledge, skill and judgment required for safe practice." - Emily Cheung Registrar, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario QUICK FACTS

Several other regulated health professions are permitted to perform acupuncture, including chiropody, chiropractic, dentistry, massage therapy, nursing, occupation therapy, physiotherapy and naturopathy.
