InevaluatingourmediaprogramusingtheGeorgiaDOE2012LibraryMediaProgram SelfEvaluationRubric,IamhappytostatethatweareatExemplarystatusin11outofthe 20Indicators.Ourlibraryprogramhasreallysteppedupthecollaborationprocesswith teachers.Teachersarestartingtoseethatthemediaspecialistswanttocollaborateandare knowledgeableenoughtoworkwiththeirstudentsinmanyareasincludinginformation literacy.Ourlibraryprogramalsoexcelsinpromotingreadingthroughthecurriculumas wellasrecreationalreading.Ourcirculationhasseena67%increaseoverthecirculation numbersfromlastyear.OurstudentsarereadingferociouslywhichIattributetoordering currentfictionthatweknowourstudentsenjoyaswellasusingourStudentWishListto helpinordering.Withtheadditionofourfulltimeparapro,wealsoareabletoserveour studentsfasterandmoreefficiently.Thelibraryprogramhasalsoadvertisedouronline OPACsystem,DestinyQuest,aswellasourEdmodopage,andweareseeingmany benefitsfromthat.Studentsaremoreawareofwhennewbooksarriveandcanputtitleson holdforthemselves,whichencouragesindependenceatthehighschoollevel. AsfortheothernineIndicators,weareattheProficientlevelforeightofthemandat theBasiclevelforoneofthem.TheoneIndicatorthatweearnedBasiconisthatthe classroomteacheristheonlyoneresponsiblerightnowforassessingstudentachievement. Ibelievethatthisgoesbacktothefactthatithasonlybeenrecentlythatteachershave evenunderstoodthemediaspecialistsroleincollaborating.Weweresimplytheretoset upequipmentorpullmaterials.Withtheideaoftruecollaboration,Ifeelthattheideaof collaborativelyassessingwilldevelop.Thoughwehavegainedagreatdealoftechnology inourlibraryprogramthisyear,thereareareasthatstillneedimprovementwhichis whereweearnedsomelevelsofbeingProficient.Wedonotcurrentlyhavestreaming videocapabilityandweneedtoincreasetheamountofSMARTboardsthatwehave anduse.Also,thoughwehaveGALILEOandoffertothestudents,weneedtodevelop

moreinserviceforteachersonwhatexactlyGALILEOcandobesidesabasicsearchfor information.Also,forstudents,itwouldbehelpfultohaveahandbookorinfographic thatwouldwalkthemthroughmoreindepthsearchingonGALILEO.Thebasicoverview introductionthatwecurrentlydodoesnotalwaystranslatetostudentsknowinghowto useGALILEOoncetheygetinfrontofacomputerthemselves.Weneedtorethinkour approachtoteachingGALILEOtobothteachersandstudents.Handsontrainingwouldbe ideal,butwewillneedtoconsidertherighttimeandwaytodothis. Overall,wehaveaveryeffectivelibraryprogramthatisbenefittingtheentireschool communityatRichmondHillHighSchool,butthereisalwaysroomforimprovement.I lookforwardtothinkingofwaystoachieve21stcenturylearningforourlibrarymedia program.
