MUHAMAD FAEZ BIN DIN 124698 COURSEWORK 2

The Cognitivist method is student-centred. In other words, the students find out for themselves in a self-directed way. Strategies include case studies, research, discussions, self-assessment and presentations. The evidence that shows cognitivism been use in the teaching process is the teacher. Based on the lesson plan that I have observe, I can see that the teacher use cognitivism in his teaching process. An example, the teacher also monitoring his students progress by asking questions to them. Students will be pickup randomly by that teacher. By using this method the teacher ask questions to help students refine their thinking and recognize where they may be wrong. So, I can see that failure may be considered a good thing as it is a tool to help learners realize that they need to learn more. That means if the student answer the question wrongly, an instructor should not get angry to the student because it can help them to learn. Besides, the student will become more confident because they will know their own potential. Second, I can see that the teacher want to provide the students with practice in improving their understanding. The teacher asks for the students do the homework at home after the teacher teaches them. This show that the method that been used by the teacher is student centre. Third, the teacher also elaborates the new information by adding to it with examples. This method happens after the student is given the chances to answer questions that have been asked. After that, the teacher Helps students to make comparisons between the known and unknown. This is because the answer is discussed together among the teacher and students. So that means, the teacher tried to make sure the students will get the information. After that, in the stage 3 the teacher use reading aloud session. In this session the teacher Students are selected randomly and are asked to read certain sentences or paragraph. By doing this activity it will give the students time to develop

metacognitive skills. Metacognitive skill is actually controlling the thinking processes and becoming more aware of something that been learning. So, by doing this activity the metacognitive skills of students will make students aware of their own knowledge, the ability to understand, control and manipulate their own cognitive process. In short, they will learn to learn. It is important for students to know the process of learning and understanding their own approach to it. In other word, Learners can reflect on and understand their own learning process, so they can monitor their progress and make modifications accordingly. Then, the teacher also Use devices such as imagery, mnemonics or acronyms. This method is actually strategies that have been recommended as appropriate for remembering information. An example, acronyms use a form of chunking by allowing students to remember a smaller piece of information that can be used to recall a larger amount of information. An acronym is a word that is formed from the first letter or letters of each word in a longer phrase. Meanwhile, mnemonics helps students to remember information by encoding it using words. These techniques generally add more information but add it in a way that makes the information easier to commit to memory. In general it is more effective to memorize information as images but in some situations mnemonics can be easier and more effective for remembering information. By using this methods students in that class get to Improves the storage and retrieval of the new information that they have learnt in that day. Besides, students in that class also pay attention towards their teachers explanation. The Teacher reads the reading passage and the students are asked to listen to teachers reading. The aim is to make sure students will focus attention and stimulate curiosity and interest. Besides, this method is to introduce the correct pronunciation of words to the students and student need to recognise or perceive the information before they can process it. Next, in the English lesson the teacher organise the new information into logical systems. Students actually can categorise information so they can discern the difference between critical and non-critical information. Then, the teacher also provides analogies for the new information. That means a comparison may be based between two or more information. So, students develop their own meaningful connections. It is good for students to comparing the new idea that they got from the teacher. It will help them to think better and thinking creatively. So as a teacher we

need to help Help students to make connections between new information and what they already know. Besides, from my observation I can see that we need to make sure to have the students' attention. This is because it is important in cogitivism learning theory to get their attention. If students did not pay attention they will leave behind. So, to make sure students did not feel bored during learning session Cognitive games are helpful when used to learn a foreign language and memorize new material. Various learning techniques are used in the classroom because there are various learning styles. There are many games that promote and influence cognitive learning. As example, sorting games that require individuals to utilize recognition and reasoning. Teachers can engage children in games in which the children sort items by various criteria, such as colour, size, texture, and other physical attributes of the items. A more advanced approach to sorting is discussing how the items are similar. This process promotes critical thinking. I also realize that it is important to provide for repetition and review of information. This is because by using repetition students will easily remember information that has been given by their teachers. There are many methods to use repetition like using a song. In a classroom environment, there are many variables that influence and contribute to learning. Teachers also need to take the time to understand each child. This is because Classrooms are widely diverse and complex. Students learn differently and are at various developmental levels. It is important that teachers create a learning environment that encourages students to do their best and makes learning interesting.
