Expository Writing Assignment Mrs. Downing Grade 5 You may choose any topic of your own interest.

You must complete an expository report, article, essay, poster or Power Point including all the elements I have taught in class. You will be required to site at least two resources using www.knightcite.com. This written project is due Thursday, April 18th. You will be graded on how well you do the following.

Developed the topic with facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples related to the topic. Stone Scholastic Academy is an outstanding Chicago Public School with a diverse student population. Many of its graduates attend selective enrollment high schools, and score well above state averages on standardized tests. The student body is made of many children from a variety of different cultures. Languages and backgrounds. At Stone Academy, twenty- three percent of our students are Caucasian, twenty-eight percent are African American, or first generation from Africa, twenty percent are Hispanic, eighteen percent are of Asian decent, and eight percent are of mixed races or Native American population. When asked, a recent Stone Academy Alumni said, My favorite memories of Stone were the conversations we would have in class about all our different traditions, religions, languages, and family cultures. In addition to a diverse student body, it has been proven that students succeed academically on standardized tests. According to recent ISAT scores, eighty-nine percent of Stones students meet or exceed state standards.

Stone Academy provides a rigorous curriculum for its students. Teachers are highly qualified in their field. The students share cultures and languages from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Not a strong example: Stone students work very hard. They score high on tests. The teachers are very busy. The students come from lots of different places.

Through statements and research, I have shown that Stone Scholastic Academy is an academically successful Chicago Public School with a diverse student population. The student body reflects a global population through language, culture and backgrounds. It also produces academically successful students who go on to attend decent high schools and colleges.
