SUMERIAN (SOME)

The Sumerian society was agriculturally based and they had the foundations for a written language called cuneiform.

Because of this the Sumerians developed extensive trade and commerce both by land and sea. They were not rich in natural resources like the Egyptians who did not leave Egypt.

Because of this trade orientation they created items to meet their needs. Cylinder Seals were used to create a packing slip. Seals can be either flat (a stamp) or round a Cylinder Seal.

Sumerians built substantial city-states, which were self ruled through a limited democracy. The Sumerian society was governed by a priestly class. Sumerian citizens were among the most devoutly religious anywhere in the ancient world. They were polytheistic they worshipped many gods, each city-state placed a greater emphasis one or another of the gods.

The Sumerians were basically peaceful, but there were belligerent people from a neighboring city-state known as the Akkadians. The Akkadian period began when the city-state of Akkad came under the rule of Sargon. Sargon wanted power and he introduced the idea of royal power. His son and grandson followed in his food steps. His grandson, Naram-Sin was the bossiest of all!

Hammurabi was Babylons most powerful king. He is best know today for his law code. The code is inscribed in cuneiform on the stele

ASSYRIAN (AND)

Assyrians were warriors and very powerful. The ruler was Sargon II.

This was a guardian for palaces or citadels. It is a winged human-headed bull. The purpose was to show power of the king and frighten enemies.

PERSIAN (PEACHES)
The Persians conquered the Babylonians The Persian Empire was the largest in the world. The Persians are now modern day Iran.
