to the fill material parts by sprinkle. This warm
water wfll contact at right angle with the air which

SPECIFICATIONS COMPLIANCE
1.2 SUMMARY
A. This section includes factory fabricated, mechanical draft

1.3 DESIGN CRITERIA:
A. Free water drift loss shall not be greater than five hundredths
of one percent of the water circulated to tower. OK

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

MANUFACTURERS

2.4 INDUCED DRAFT, COUNTERFLOW COOLING TOWERS

The casing made of rust- and shock-resistant riqid FRP
excels in weather resistance. Steel prodUct parts sucn as posts and beams
are hot-dip zinc-coated.
1-2 Upper distribution basin
Basins are made of qlass fiber reinforced polyester resin,
and will not rust Or corrode.
Also, since they are provided with four water level requlating valves per
cell, water level balance can be structurally adjusted.

The newly developed filling for the cross-flow type cooling tower is membrane
filling having excellent performance, and can withstands many years of
service because of the use of rigid PVC excelling in weather resistance.
1-5 Fait
The alumioum-made axial fan has a variable structure whereby the angle
can be freely adjusted. It is extremely lightweight, and excels in corrosion
resistance.
'It is made with highly waterproof specifications 'for the cooling tower.

The two-stage type designed and manufactured exclusively
for the cooling tower has been adopted. All gears in use are helical gears
and spiral bevel gears with hardened tooth flanks, heeding adequate strength
and quiet operation.
In addition, due to the original oil dam structure adopted at the top of
the housing. the upper bearing is also lubricated with oil, requiring no
grease filling, so that maintenance man-hour'! are reduced.
1-7 Drive shaft
:rhe drive shaft that transmits rotations of the motor to the speed reducer
has an extremely simple structure, in which two hubs, one center ring and
two pairs of disk packs are coupled with several reamer bolts, requiring
no lubrication because the components have no friction parts.
Also, since each member is made of SUS, it withstands continuous use "vep
in a lOot hUmidity atmosphere.

3. Preparations for operation
3-1 Cleaning
Open the drain at the bottom of the water basin, and wash away dust and
the like having accumulated in the water basin during brushing. At this
t;i.me, remove contamination to the strainer and louvers,. such
as dust, scales and algae.
3-2 Rassing water
Start the ci:r:culating pump to adequately wash contamination off the inside
of the towe:r: and water passing pipe system, and replace the water witn new
circulating water.
a. Tower body
Check that the inspection doors inside and outside of tne tower are
closed.
b. Drive section
1) Check to see if the lubricating oil of the speed reducer is at the
regular oil level position,'and check the oil for contamination.
To check the oil level, open the oil level check valve of the oil
gauge. After checking, close the valve.

2) Rotate the fan by hand to check for smooth l:otation, and also check
the clearance condition between the blade tips and fan casing.
Check the blade appearance for abnormalities and adhesion of foreign
matter, and also check for the presence or absence of soH.ds sucked
up by rotation.
3) Rotate the fan for a short time, and check that air is discharged
upward.
4) Measure the supply voltage, and check that the power supply is normaL
5) Run the fan for two to three hours to check for vibrations and abnormal
sounds, and if there is any abnormality, see Section 7
"TrouJ:>leshooting" .

c. Distribution device
1) Check the spray holes of the upper distribution basins for clogging
by foreign matter, and perform cleaning 1f clogged.

and remove it if any.

4-1 Driving the
a. Fully open the air vent valve of each piping section to remove air having
accumulated in the piping so that the whole circulating water system
is adequately filled with water.
b. After starting operation, gradually open the circulating water valve
ana make adjustments so that the rated water flow is reached.
c. Since the upper distribution basins available at four places per cell
are provided with water level valves, open and close the
butterfly valves and make adjustments so that the water levels of the
upper distribution basins at the four places become uniform.
(The water levels of the upper distribution basins should be approx.
70rnm at the. rated water flow.)
4-2 Priving the fan
I /f\\ CAUTION
When st:arting the fan, carafully check around the watsr inlet and
outlet of the cooling towar for foreign macter. Be aware that if forei.gn
lIIatte.l: remains aroUnd the ontlet, it may drop in the tOlfer
due to vibrations of the fan, etc./ and be shot by the fan, or the
fan'lIIaY be damaged.
Istart the fans one by one.
When steady operation begins, measure each phase current, and check to see
i.f operation is performed within the range of the rated current value on
the nameplate of the motor.

5. Precautions in operation
5-1 Perfoxmance
Since the performance of the cooling tower is affected by fluctuations in
the circulating water flow, always keep the rated water flow.

5-2 E'unction
Be extremely careful with vibrations, sounds, cooling water temperature
and electrical current during operation, and always check that there is
nO abnormality.
Since vibration and noise sOurces are mainly a result of the drive section
consisting of the speed reducer, motor aild fan, do not overlook even a triVial
abnor,!,ality.

6. Maintenance and control
6 CAUTION
1. When inspecting the motor, be Suxe to turn off the power. Since
. t:1l.e_ fan may start sUddenly dua to automatic operation oJ: the like
even if it is stopped, be sure to check that the power i.s off.
2. If an antifree2:ing hellte:/: is. attached, ,,3.so turn off the power
of the heater when performing inspecti.on.
3. Fox work at high elevations use safety. equ.ipment such as a helmet.
6-1 DriVG section
a. Check for the presence or absence of abnormal sounds and vibrations, .
and the oil level every day.
b. Replace all speed reducer oil 500 hours after starting operation, and
then replace it again 2500 hours after that.
Then, replace used oil with new oil every 5000 hours.
When injecting oil, be extra careful not to mix impurities and foreign
matter, and the like.
c. HOW to replace oil
i. Place an oil pan (to be prepared by you) under the oil discharge
valve, and fully open the oil level check valve and oil discharge
valve to drain the oil.
ii. After that, close the 011 discharge valve, and remove the cap from
the lubricating opening, and slowly fifl new oil.
iii. Fill up to the regular oil level position, put the cap back, and
close the oil level check valve for completion.

Since the corrosion conditions of the casing framework vary depending on
the check for the presence or absence of rust once a year.'
6-8 Circulating wAter
a. Since the circula ting water should basically be pH6. 5 - 8.2, check Eor
mixing of matter that adversely affects the water quality of the
water once a month, and immediately remove it if any.
b. Check every day to $ee if the amount of supply water is proper when also
checking the water basin.
6-9 Water quality ,
Maintenance is indispensable in the ability of the cooling tower to
perform water quality control, inclUding U$e of water treating agents
in cooling water and blow-down as measures to prevent adhesion of scales
and slime to the filling surface, which can be the main factors in
performance deterioration of the cooling tower.
Since the heat exchange in the cooling tower by direct contact between
the air and hot water cleans the air conversely, the water quality of
the circulating wateJ: is gJ:eatly affected by the air around the installed
coolioq tower.
For the cooling water system, total water treatment is required because
problems of scales, slime and corrosion do not ocem: separately but occur
in connection with each other.
If the water contains iron, total hardness components, silica, organic
substances, etc., hard scales of carbonate and silica adhere to the
surface of the heat exchanger due to concentration, reSUlting in
deterioration of the thermal efficiencies of the refrigerator and
condenser.

9-1 shows the proper water quality control standards of


water.

Connecting power supply
Rating of connectable wire is Ii. 2-2. 5mm' (AWG24-l2). Strip the end of wire by
ahout insert it into the termiual hole aud clamp with the screw.
Thisconuecting terminal is agaiusi vibrations. a power unit capable
of supplying DC24VO. 5V 20mA is required. Current consumption is about l2mA.
When a reset switch is provided between the power circuit and AC the hold
status of the relay coutacl can be released.

3. Operation
When VIBROSWITH is properly connected and it will be normally operated.
When a vibration exceeding the alarming level continues for more than the preset
delay time. the relay is turned on and this status will be held uutil the next
resetting Is done.
To reset tbe switch, tnrn off power supply once by means of the reset switch as
shown in the No malfunction will occur even if power turned on
once again.
4. Maintenance
No consumable parts are provided, eliminating the need for daily maintenance.
To check the function of VIBROSWITCH. set alarming level below the current
vibration setting or remove the VIBROSWITCH and then give a vibration over
the alarming level.

3.Quantity-of-heat calculation of a cooling tower
Flux of water L and air flux From G to a water air ratio It asks for N and is numerical
integration. It asks for U/N or U. Next, the filler capacity of a cooling tower is decided
arbitrarily, and if it substitutes for (8) formulas, a required Ka value can be found. Filler
performance formula obtained by this required Ka value and experiment Kao is compared,
and if set to Kao/Ka >= 1, specification will be satisfied on quantity-of-heat calculation.
