Chemical Engineering Building Endowment Drive

April 2013 Greetings! The University of the Philippines Diliman Chemical Engineering Department is constructing a new building funded by the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERDT) program. This building is envisioned to provide an enabling and nurturing environment for the department's faculty, staff and students to innovate with new materials, design better processes, and optimize systems. It will house technologically advanced research laboratories that aim to provide solutions to challenges in energy, sustainability, safety and security, health and quality of life.
5 sub-buildings: 1. Front Building(4-storey) administration offices lecture rooms 2. Middle Building(3-storey) research & extension service laboratories faculty rooms 3. Rear Building(3-storey) research & extension service laboratories faculty rooms 4. Pilot Plant instructional laboratories project rooms 5. Utility Building
Location: Maramag St., Engineering Complex, University of the Philippines, Diliman

We are grateful to the government for funding the ERDT program which started our new home. So we have the building, the classrooms, and some new equipment. But the classrooms have no chairs and the laboratories have no tables, no sinks, no shelves. So we call upon our alumni and

friends from industry to come join us in building and completing our new home by sponsoring a room. We enjoin you to look back to where your talents have been nurtured to

become the industry's leaders and movers that you are today; and to pay forward so that the next generation of chemical engineers can likewise be nurtured to become the next leaders and movers of a dynamic and sustainable Philippine processing industry. Very truly yours, Rizalinda L. de Leon, Ph. D. Chair

HOW TO BE PART OF THE ENDOWMENT DRIVE
Corporate Sponsors
Industry partners may sponsor the endowment of a room or a whole laboratory.

Group Donors
Group donors refer to groups of people (a ChE batch or a family) who give donations toward the endowment of a particular room. The "donor" refers to the name which the group agrees to be collectively called, while each member of the group or batch is called a "group contributor".

Contributors
Individuals who give donations toward the endowment of no particular room. The ChE Department will pool these individual contributions to endow a particular room that does not have a donor or sponsor yet, provided the required amount is reached, or for other requirements of the building. A plaque bearing the names of the contributors will be posted outside the door of the endowed room. The ChE Department reserves the right to choose the room to be endowed out of individual contributions depending on the amount pooled and the rooms already endowed by donors and sponsors unless the individual contributors agree on endowing a particular room. A plaque bearing the names of the contributors whose donations have been pooled for other needs of the building will be posted at the building lobby.

The company name and logo will be written on the plaque unless the donor elects to name the room or laboratory in honor of another person or entity in agreement with the ChE Department. The company should designate a contact person with whom the Department may coordinate regarding the details of the contract. Corporate sponsors will be given three (3) months starting on the date of pledge to deposit the donation.

The name of the donor will be written on the plaque to be mounted on the wall outside the endowed room. A contact person should be assigned by the group with whom the Department may coordinate regarding the details of the contract.

Group donors will be given three (3) months starting on the date of pledge to deposit the donation.

A pledge form shall be filled out by the donor to indicate the room the donor wishes to endow, the amount to be contributed, or the donation in kind. The pledge form can be found on page 4. The accomplished pledge form shall be sent either through: a. Fax: UP Chemical Engineering Department (632) 929 6640 (telefax). b. Email: Rizalinda de Leon <chemeng@coe.upd.edu.ph>. A confirmatory message acknowledging receipt of the pledge form and a reference number of the pledge will be sent to the donor. Donations may be coursed either through the: a. UP Chemical Engineering Foundation, Inc. (UP ChEAF). b. University of the Philippines

R.A. 9500, also known as the University of the Philippines Charter of 2008, allows the equivalent 150% of the value of the donation deducted from the donor's or sponsor's gross income.

Details are found on pages 5-6.

DONATIONS through UP:
Group Donors & Corporate Sponsors may prefer to channel their gifts directly to the University of the Philippines in order to avail of the allowable deductions, as stated in R.A. 9500. We would like to advise you, however, that procurements charged

to cash donations given directly to the University of the Philippines are subject to government procurement laws that require bidding, posting at the Philippine
Government Electronic Procurement System (PhilGEPS) and procurement by lot. Such procurements therefore may take longer. Hence, for direct donations to UP, donations in kind, instead of cash, are encouraged. Please coordinate with the Department Chair for donations that will be coursed through the University.
