HP LaserJet 2100 Series Printers - Adding Memory (DIMM) to the Printer

Memory specifications Ordering information Installing memory Checking memory installation The HP LaserJet 2100 series printers have three dual in-line memory module (DIMM) slots for upgrading with: More printer memory. DIMMs are available in 4, 8, and 16 MB, for a maximum of 52 MB. DIMM-based accessory fonts, macros, and patterns. Other DIMM-based printer languages and printer options. NOTE: Single in-line memory modules (SIMMs) used on previous HP LaserJet printers are not compatible with the HP LaserJet 2100. Add more memory to the printer if printing complex graphics or PostScript (R) documents, or using many downloaded fonts. To find out how much memory is installed in the printer, print a configuration page by pressing GO and JOBCANCEL while the printer is in the Ready state. The firmware for the printer resides on the printer formatter. In some cases it may be necessary to install a firmware upgrade DIMM. This DIMM can be installed in any of the available memory slots by following these directions.

Memory specifications
The HP LaserJet 2100 products support the following DIMM types: EDO: (Extended Data Output) technology that retains data in memory while the processor continues with other operations. This memory is single-tasking. Specifications: EDO: 100 pin, 32 bit, 60ns, 3.3 volts, 1K refresh rate top

Installing memory
CAUTION:Static electricity can damage DIMMs. When handling DIMMs, either wear an antistatic wrist strap or frequently touch the surface of the DIMMs' antistatic package and then touch bare metal on the printer. 1. Print a configuration page to find out how much memory is installed in the printer before adding additional memory. After the configuration page prints, turn the printer off and disconnect the power cord (Figure 1). Figure 1: Disconnecting the power cord

NOTE: For best results, use DIMM Slots in 1-2-3 order. Press the DIMM straight into the slot (press firmly). (Figure 8) Make sure that the locks on each side of the DIMM snap inward into place. (To remove a DIMM, the locks must be released.) Repeat Steps 6, 7, and 8 for each DIMM that is being installed. Figure 8: Pressing the DIMM into the slot

Checking memory installation

To verify that DIMMs are installed correctly: 1. Turn on the printer. Check that the printer control panel displays the Ready light after the printer has gone through the startup sequence. If an error message appears, a DIMM may have been incorrectly installed. Print a configuration page by pressing the GO and JOBCANCEL buttons simultaneously. Check the memory section on the configuration page and compare it with the configuration page printed before the DIMM installation. If the amount of recognized memory has not increased: The DIMM may not be installed correctly (repeat the installation procedure). Try another DIMM slot. The DIMM may be defective (try a new DIMM). NOTE: If printer language (personality) was installed, check the Installed Personalities and Options section on the configuration page. This area should list the new printer language. top
