Concept Note Prajnanam Main Theme - Liberating Learning Subtheme 1 : Alternatives to Systemic Rituals Subtheme 2 : Defying the Dictating Forces Subtheme 3 : Teacher Education for Liberating Learning Subtheme 4 : Bhartiya Concept of Learning: from Cognition (Bodh) to Higher Intelligence ( Prajna) Subtheme 5 : Education from Womb to School Liberating Learning The contemporary processes of Liberalization, Privatization and Globalisation all profess that they want education to flow and spread. The researcher with her twin blinking eyes of assumption and hypothesis twits: 'Is LPG likely to liberate learning from the shackles of polity, economy and nationalism?' And "What can be the nature of Liberating Learning, i.e. learning that liberates the learner from all forms of rituals, disciplines and conditioning." We welcome all the inquisitive minds to share their visions, experiences, experiments and studies with the international fraternity. Sub Theme 1: Alternatives to Systemic Rituals The learner is smothered by innumerable blocks designed to 'run the system smoothly'. There are admission procedures, syllabi, time-tables, semesters, examination formats, evaluation and grading, rules and regulations, and even uniforms!! Our educational organizations still function like that giant machine in Charlie Chaplin's 'Modern Times'. Would you like to 'blast' the system through a revolution or go for a silent rational-creative revolution? Come up with your critique, experiments, surveys, workable models that lead to affirmative alternatives which you think would liberate the learner and the learning. Sub Theme 2: Defying the Dictating Forces Education still and more cleverly, is strategically (mis)used by handsome and enticing cyclopes like governments, authorities, ideological pressure groups, religions or sectarian clans, corporate business houses, life-style marketers and even degree-dispatching profiteers. All of these have their state-of-art moulds to 'shape' learning in such a form that fulfills their ulterior motives. Detect the 'game' of these great dictators and suggest moves upto 'endgame'. This is a giant and intelligent task for scholars and researchers. It is a venture and an enterprise. How can a meek teacher become a formidable shaker & mover? You can unveil your efforts at micro or macro levels. Sub Theme 3: Teacher Education for Liberating Learning The realization of liberating learning calls for a radical transformation in the spirit and shape of teacher education. This meta-profession has strength and responsibility to transcend the mundane goals and aims of education. It can also widen and dissolve the horizons of teaching- learning practices. The humanity has reached to that mature understanding wherefrom it can take a flight into an infinite boundless wisdom. How can we remove the narrow pursuit of disciplines, functional knowledge skills, teaching-learning techniques with pre-determined outcomes, inculcation of preset views and values? Our endeavor is to suggest a new concept of teaching and learning along with the profile of teacher, a school or a learning place and the nature of teacher education programmes - all of these working in consonance to bring forth learning that liberates. Sub Theme 4: Bhartiya Concept of Learning: from Cognition ( Bodh) to Higher Intelligence ( Prajna) Liberation or emancipation from the five shells (Punch Kosh) is the ultimate goal of life.It is a pilgrimage to develop that competence of learning and unlearning which would reach him beyond cognition ( bodh) and activate the higher intelligence ( prajna) that in turn endows him with a supreme / sublime knowledge (Prajnanam). Therefore Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktye. How can this ultimate liberation be achieved through education? What is the nature of Learning according to Bhartiya Traditions of Thinking? Is there a scope for integrating the Eastern, the Western and the trancecultural paradigms of learning? Take up the challenge- chalk out the journey from Avidya ( worldly Knowledge ) to Vidya (Liberating Learning), study the institutes engaged in realizing Bhartiya way of learning and suggest formal and informal practices for liberating learners of all age groups: from toddlers to teachers. Sub Theme - 5 Education from Womb to School: This is the most seminal period of growth and development. Have we given due attention to this subterranean phase of progressive unfolding of human existence? Torsten Husen did emphasize the pre-school and post-school education long back. Now we, the educators of the new millennium, need to delve into the mystery of development in the mother's womb and that of a child up to the age of six years. What type of physio-Psycho-socio- cognitive developments take place during this period? From minus nine months to six years? What can be the content and nature of education during these crucial years? Education of pregnant mothers and that of parents is also a less-ploughed area of research. Diverse and careful deliberations in this subject are invited. Tiny or longitudinal researches from the field of medicine, genetics, eugenics, psychology, sociology, preschool education and parental education are most wanted inputs in this sub theme. Call for Papers Languages : English / Hindi (with fonts) Participants are requested to submit their abstract (100 words) and papers (1000 to 1500 words) on or before 30th April/ 15th may, 2013 respectively in the soft copy to sanshodhan@gmail.com and also send a copy to paper@prajnanam.org A panel of renowned educationists will screen all the papers and recommend some for presentation and some more for e-publication in the special issue of SANSHODHAN (ISSN 0975-4245).

Bhartya Shikshan Mandal, Gujarat Prant Concept : Bharat, the pioneer of the earliest educational system of the world where such luminaries as Bharadwaja, Kashyap and Agatsya led the path; Bharat, which was home to global universities like Takshashila and Nalanda, is today, even after decades of independence, suffering the crushing load of Macaulayan system of education that was conceived to keep her tightly bound in the shackles of mental slavery. Objectives : Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal was established to reorient the present education system of Bharat in the light of the values of Bhartiya culture, so that each student turns out to be a worthy citizen inspired by values like national integration, nobility of thought and character, spiritual elevation, dignity of labour, disciplined life, social harmony, humane sensibility and nationalistic fervor; and for this purpose it strives to initiate a campaign among students, teachers, parents, educationists, thinkers and enlightened intellectuals who can bring about an awakening in the whole society. Seven point campaign 1. Historical inconsistencies prevailing in the history and other disciplines be removed and the teaching of history be based on the concept of Bhartiyaness. 2. The entire history of the freedom struggle of Bharat, starting with the earliest aggression of the Greek Emperor Alexander, about 2500 years ago, be introduced in the curriculum. 3. The achievements and great traditions of Bharat in Science, literature and Fine Arts be included in the curriculum. 4. The eternal Bhartiya values be established in the curriculum at all levels of education. 5. The provisions that divide the Bhartiya society, in minorities and other groups be removed from the legal system and the Constitution of Bharat. 6. Sanskrit language is the perennial source of Bhartiya culture. Therefore Sanskrit be introduced as an integral part of the education system. 7. Bhartiya society to be propelled on the road to self, power and prosperity, Swadeshi approach be developed through the medium of education. Dr. K. S.
