LESSON PLAN Roman Jacobsons theory

SCHOOL: Rafael Bernal Jimenez GRADE: 4 STUDENTS NUMBER: 29 Students TEACHER: Leidy Katherine Amaya Brand TOPIC: Roman Jacobsons theory TOTAL TIME: 90 minutes

OBJECTIVE AND JUSTIFICATION: Based in the ideas of Roman Jacobson we are going to explain the Jacobsons communication model based on Saussures theory in order to explain how language works in the common speech that they have every day and how it works at the same time in the poetics. All this theory is going to be applied in one stanza of the song called Friends by Nas and Damian Marley, because they are familiar with this kind of music, according the previous students profile shared in the project. CLASS DEVELOPMENT: Starting the class the teacher will ask the students which elements make possible for us to communicate with each other, according previous classes in which they learn the elements of the communication; their answers will be posted on the board; this part will take 10 minutes. Next to that, the teacher is going to put the first stanza of the song for the students it will be repeated when the teacher will give the text with the first verse of the song and they are going to read it in English and in Spanish, the all group is going to translate the text, helping by the teacher and they are going to summarize the principal ideas of the text, all of this based on the principal elements of the communication that they said before, the teacher is going to pass for each group in order to help them with some meanings; this part will take 20 minutes. After that, the students are going to tell what they found in the text, which elements they found; this part takes 15 minutes.

Next the teacher will use the elements that they found in the text and the previous ideas in order to explain the different elements that Jacobson said in his model: addressed,

addressee, message, context, contact and code, for this the teacher is going to take examples of the verse. This will take 30 minutes.

Then, in groups of four, they are going to tell the others students in which situations they use this kind of elements, and in a little chart they are going to put some elements in order to create a story in other class.

LEARNING SKILLS TO BE WORKED: The students are going to work on vocabulary, elements of the communication and listening, in all of these, they will improve their communicative skills and at the same time they can learn some urban words that are not common in the academic life. MATERIALS: They are will work with their notebooks, a tape recorder and the papers with the song.
