3.0 ACTIVITIES (YEAR 2) Activity 1: Content standard: 1.

2: by the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to listen and respond appropriately in formal and informal situations for a variety of purposes. Learning standard: 1.2.2: Able to participate in daily conversation: a) Exchange greetings b) Introduce oneself c) Make polite request d) Thank someone e) Express a simple apology 1. Teacher invite students to watch 'The Ugly Duckling' movie in the classroom. 2. After watching the movie, students will be asked to give their opinions about the conversations that happen among characters in the movie. 3. Teacher tells students on how to converse in the real situations. Teacher give example of daily questions and the appropriate answers for each questions. Example: 'How are you?" (question) 'I'm fine, thank you." (answer) 4. Teacher then asks the students to practice conversing with their partner. JUSTIFICATION This activity is suitable to enhance students speaking skills. This activity also boost students confidence in learning and speaking the second language. Besides, its also help students to converse in real situation. The activity also sharpen students attention during the movie watching session. It is because after the movie watching session, they will be asks to give their own views about the conversations happened in the movie. Interaction between students also increase during this activity.

Activity 2: Content standard: 1.1: by the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation. Learning standard: 1.1.1: able to listen and respond to stimulus given with guidance: a) environmental sound b) instrumental sounds c) body percussion d) rhythm and rhyme e) alliteration f) voice sounds g) oral blending and segmenting 1. Teacher show a presentation about animals and their sounds. 2. For each of the animals picture, teacher will insert specific sound so that students will recognize the animals with the sound that its make. 3. There are two phases of activities. 4. First, teacher will show the both animals pictures with their particular sound. 5. Students will pay attention and listen to the the sound. 6. Next phase, teacher will do again the first phase activitiy but this time teacher will only plays the animal sound and students need to match the sound with correct animal. JUSTIFICATION This activity can improve students listening skills. During this activity, students learn how to listen and react to the stimulus. Not only that, students also learn the sounds of the animals that live around them. This will help them to recognize the animals through the sound that the animals make. They also learn to match corrects animals with their specific sounds.

Activity 3: Content standard: 1.1: by the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation. Learning standard: 1.1.4: Able to talk about a stimulus with guidance. a) Based on the movie 'The Ugly Duckling', teacher will teach about animals from the movie. b) Teacher will show students the picture of the animals with its name. c) Next, teacher will ask students to make the animals' masks. d) Teacher will provide students with materials to make the masks. e) When students finish making the masks, teacher will asks them to wear the masks. f) Students will pretend that they are the animals and they will do the action of the particular animal. g) Other students will say aloud the name of the animals based on their observation. JUSTIFICATION This activity is suitable to enhance students speaking skills. This activity also boost students confidence in learning and speaking English language. They also will be able to talk about a stimulus with guidance. From this activity, students also will be able to pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation. Students also able to enhance their creativity from this activity. They will learn how to do crafts during this activity. Beside that, students will also learn the actions of the animals.

Activity 4: Content standard: 3.2: by the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of purposes. Learning standard: 3.2.4: Able to spell common sight words. a) After watching 'The Ugly Duckling' movie, teacher will distribute tasksheet to students. b) The tasksheet is based on the story of 'The Ugly Duckling'. There are few blank spaces that needs the students to fill it. c) The tasksheet needs the students to fill-in the blank spaces with their own choice of animals. Which mean they complete tale with their own words. d) After the students finish their own version of tale, teacher will asks students to present their tale in front of the class. JUSTIFICATION Students will enhance their writing skills from this activity. They learn to spell words during the activity. Students also learn to write own story by completing the story given with their own words. They will recalls their experience from watching 'The Ugly Duckling' movie in order to complete their own story. They will use their own idea and imagination in completing the story.

Activity 5: (long-term project) Content Standard: 3.2: by the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of purposes. Learning Standard: 3.2.2 Able to write simple sentences with guidance. a) Teacher will divides students into four group of five. b) Then, teacher will give each group one duck egg. c) Teacher will assign students to take care of the egg until the egg hatch. d) Students will put the eggs in box or aquarium which gave enough heat for the eggs to hatch. e) Students will use simple sentence to record their everyday observation until the egg hatch. JUSTIFICATION This activity helps students to write simple sentences in proper manner. They will write their report about their observation everyday. This activity also train them to be a patience person. They will take care of the eggs given by teacher until the eggs hatch. Its also teach them to love animals. Other than that, students will be able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of purposes.
