The Stations of the Cross according to the method of St. Francis of Assisi
| + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Preparatory Prayer Most mercif ul Lord, * with a contrite heart and penitent spirit * I bow down bef ore T hy divine Majesty. * I adore T hee as my supreme Lord and Master. * I believe in T hee, * I hope in T hee, * I love T hee above all things. * I am heartily sorry f or having of f ended T hee, * my only and supreme God. * I f irmly resolve to amend my lif e; * and although I am unworthy to obtain mercy, * yet looking upon T hy holy Cross * I am f illed with peace and consolation. * I will, theref ore, meditate on T hy suf f erings, * and visit the Stations * in company with T hy sorrowf ul Mother * and my holy Guardian Angel, * to promote T hy honor and to save my soul. * I desire to gain all indulgences granted to this holy exercise * f or myself and f or the souls in Purgatory. * O Loving Jesus, * inf lame my cold heart with T hy love, * that I may perf orm this devotion as perf ectly as possible, * and that I may live and die in union with T hee. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. T hrough her heart, His sorrow sharing, All His bitter anguish bearing, Now at length the sword had passed.
R. Because by T hy holy Cross, T hou hast redeemed the world. How sad and how painf ul must it have been f or Mary to behold her beloved Son laden with the Cross, covered with wounds and blood, and driven through the streets by savage executioners! What unspeakable pangs her most tender heart must have experienced! How earnestly did she desire to die instead of Jesus, or at least with Him! O Jesus, * O Mary, * I am the cause of the pains that pierced your hearts. * Would that my heart might experience some of your suf f erings. * O Mother, * let me share in thy suf f erings and those of they Son, * that I may obtain the grace of a happy death. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. Is there one who would not weep, Whelmed in miseries so deep, Christs dear Mother to behold?
Dearest Jesus, * what return shall I make T hee f or all T hy benef its? * Behold, I consecrate myself entirely to T hy service. * My whole heart I give to T hee; * stamp on it T hy holy image, * that I may never f orget T hee. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. Bruised, derided, cursed, def iled, She beheld her tender Child, All with bloody scourges rent. < Seventh Station Jesus Falls the Second Time V. We adore T hee, O Christ, and we praise T hee. R. Because by T hy holy Cross, T hou hast redeemed the world. Overwhelmed by the weight of the Cross, Jesus f alls again to the ground. But the cruel executioners do not permit Him to rest a moment. With thrusts and blows they urge Him onward. With what cruelty Jesus in treated and trampled under f oot! Remember, compassionate soul, that your sins caused Jesus this painf ul f all. Have mercy on me, O Jesus, * and help me never to f all into my f ormer sins. * From this moment I will strive sincerely * never to sin again. * But T hou, O Jesus, strengthen me with T hy grace, * that I may f aithf ully carry out my resolution. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. For the sins of His own nation, Saw Him hang in desolation Till His spirit f orth He sent.
V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. O thou Mother: f ont of love! Touch my spirit f rom above, Make my heart with thine accord.
R. Because by T hy holy Cross, T hou hast redeemed the world. Stripped of His garments, Jesus is violently thrown down on the Cross. His hands and His f eet are nailed to it in the most cruel way. Jesus remains silent, because it so pleases His heavenly Father. He suf f ers patiently, because He suf f ers f or you. How do you act in suf f erings and trials? How f retf ul and impatient, how f ull of complaints are you! O Jesus, * meek and patient Lamb, * I renounce f orever my impatience. * Crucif y, O Lord, my f lesh, * with its evil desires and vices. * Punish and af f lict me in this lif e, * but spare me in the next. * I resign myself altogether to T hy holy will. * May it be done in all things. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. Let me share with T hee His pain, Who f or all my sins was slain, Who f or me in torment died.

O Lord Jesus crucified! * I most earnestly entreat T hee: * Help me do what is right * and let me not be separated f rom T hy Cross, * f or on it I desire to live and to die. * Create in me, O Lord, a clean heart, * that I may worthily receive T hee in Holy Communion, and that T hou mayest remain in me, * and I in T hee, * f or all eternity. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be. V. Lord Jesus, crucif ied. R. Have mercy on us. By the cross with thee to stay; T here with thee to weep and pray Is all I ask of thee to give.
