This deck, as you can probably tell by certain card inclusions, is basically designed to be an EDH Kikimite deck. It features many of the best tutors RUG has to offer to enable you to assemble the combo of KikiJiki/Splinter Twin + Pestermite/Deceiver Exarch consistently. However, the strength of this deck is that it plays a strong control game, enabling you to assemble the combo with protection.

Maelstrom Wanderer was chosen as the general due to the fact that its a reasonable plan B option should the combo be disrupted in any way its a 7/5 haste creature with innate card advantage due to the double cascade, and using the control elements in this deck it should be possible to push through 21 points of general damage with it. Plus, its fun to double cascade. Granted, multiple maindeck counterspells do not play well with Maelstrom Wanderers double cascades at all, but the double cascade is pretty much just the cherry on top the real reason to run him is that hes the best fighting general RUG has to offer. Another potent combo that can be assembled within the deck is Tidespout Tyrant with any of these three mana artifacts: Sol Ring, Mana Vault, and Mana Crypt. Using Tidespout Tyrants ability to bounce these artifacts after tapping them for mana enables them to be replayed untapped, and each iteration of the cycle yields a net gain of mana. Coupling this with the Coalition Relic enables you to gain infinite mana of any color, which can be funneled into Maelstrom Wanderer to cast everything in your deck.

From here, winning is academic, as you can bounce everything on the field with Venser, or exile all your opponents permanents and hands with Karn. This combo is very hard to assemble relative to the Kikimite combo, however, so its pretty much just a bonus that occurs every now and then.
