Tutorial 3: PanSystem Exercise Workflow

1. Open or logon to PanSystem 2. Click on Dataprep, then Gauge Data 3. Under Edit, click Import 4. Specify where the DST.tpr file was stored in terms of drive and directory, then open the file 5. Check for Time (hours) and Pressure (psia), Skip the rate column (no data), then click import, when see message do you wish to save a format template?, click no 6. Window message: Number of data points imported: 85, click OK 7. Highlight DST: Pressure #1 on the left window, then click Add to list , then click on plot 8. One BuildUp (BU) is now plotted in linear scale (pressure vs time) under Data Edit mode 9. Marking the test period by clicking on the 15 th icon on the top of the screen, and the start and the end of the BU data points (Click OK when message window appear). 10. Click on Dataprep, then Well and Reservoir Description (Analytical) 11. When the Reservoir Description window is up, then check for: Under Well Control: Well1, Principal Under Fluid Type: Oil Under Layer Control: Layer 1 Under Principal Well Orientation: Vertical NB: In the following steps, any parameter highlighted in RED is essential for the calculation, but try to input as much data as available to improve the accuracy of the analysis. 12. Click Well parameters, input Well Radius: in ft., then click OK 13. Click Layer parameters..., input Formation Thickness: in ft., and Porosity:, then click OK 14. Click Fluid parameters..., input B0: , 0:, and Ct:, then click OK, followed by clicking OK again on the following window 15. Click on Dataprep again, then Gauge Data 16. On the bottom left corner of the window, click Rate changes 17. Highlight row 1, then insert one more row by clicking Insert... on the left of the window. Click OK on the following window 18. Input the Time (tp - producing history) in row 1, and rate (q) in row 2, then click OK, also Click OK on the following window. When you finished the data input, go to analysis, then click plot, now you see the Test Overview 19. Click File, save as. to save the file as *.pan file, with file name, e.g. Tutor3.pan. Now the test data is ready for the analysis.

Guide Lines for Preparing the Well Test Report

The well test report will be based on Tutorial 3 i.e. the data: DST.TPR you have edited into *.pan file. The report will include a few pages of text on your test analysis and interpretation using A4 paper, including in the Appendix the corresponding figures/plots to support your analysis results. In general, the report should include: 1. Introduction Describing the test in terms of type of test (this is a pressure build-up), production history (producing time), geology (this is a Fluvial reservoir), and testing time. Tabulating the key input parameters (refer to the corresponding figure (s) as necessary). 2. Well Test Analysis Diagnostic Describing the procedures to identify flow regimes on the Diagnostic (log-log) plot in terms of the features of ETR, MTR and LTR, and how to use Type Curve matching to help for the model selection, how to derive the wellbore storage coefficient (refer to the corresponding figure (s) as necessary). Specialised Analysis Radial Flow Analysis Describing the radial flow (MTR) analysis using radial flow plot (semi-log plot), then tabulate and explain the meanings of the derived parameters (refer to the corresponding figure (s) as necessary). Linear Flow Analysis Describing the linear flow (LTR) analysis using linear flow plot (square root of time plot), then tabulate and explain the meanings of the derived parameters, sketch the boundaries relative to the well, give an explanation about the flow process within the defined reservoir geometry (from radial to linear, refer to the corresponding figure (s) as necessary). NB: save the analysis results after every specialised analysis by click Cnf icon, then click it again to check. Simulation / Flow Regime/History Matching Describing the auto match process on log-log plot (flow regime match). Also, radial flow plot match, linear flow plot match and the test overview match (quick match), referring to the corresponding figure (s) as necessary). 3. Well Test Interpretation Try to explain what the analysis results (model and parameters) mean to reservoir modelling. Address the uncertainties of the test analysis results, emphasise the importance of the multidisciplinary integration in resolving the uncertainty, and state the role of geology in well test design and analysis. 4. Summary and Conclusions Summarise and tabulate the well test analysis results.
