Is quota in promotion in govt. jobs reasonable? Babasaheb Ambedkar brought reservation into picture.

The biggest conversion from one caste to another happened at that time. The condition of SC ST and OBC was miserable. They were not treated well and needed a platform to grow. What he did was to be implemented for only those 5 to 10 years span. But after him other politicians took an advantage of his reforms. They wanted votes and thus they kept the reservation on even after betterment of society. It was never meant to be the way it is today. We misinterpreted the condition and are doing wrong by not understanding the real message. Look at society from a mothers point of view If equal people are treated unequally it is unlawful and if unequal people are treated equally, it is also objected to, so how do we describe right to equality? We have to look at society from a mothers point of view. If she has one strong and one weak child, she will obviously give extra attention and support to the weaker child. Though we are using the minimum qualification criterion for SC and ST at entry point for government jobs, the same criterion is not being used for promotions. So, the government should go ahead and bring the amendment in the bill for reservation in promotions. It is a different thing that the present government is bringing the change not out of love but for sheer political gains. Today if you

do not promote these people, there will be nobody to look after them.

On January 26, 1950, we pledged that we will achieve economical, political and social justice in India. Our constitutional aim is to achieve this in order to remove social inequality. BG Kolse Patil, Former HC Judge

Promotion should be based on seniority Reservation for recruitment in government jobs is acceptable but I dont support reservation in promotion. All these years, the government could have strengthened the SCs and STs by giving them education so that by now we could have scrapped reservation altogether. Having reservation in promotion is not the right move because it can lead to conflicts within the administration and alsosociety. The right way is to promote on the basis of seniority, all have to stand in the queue to get the rightful chance. Reservation for promotion in government jobs is not fair and is not even needed. Arun Bhatia, Former IAS Officer & PMC Commissioner

Reservations have to be gradually withdrawn India is the only country in the world where citizens take pride in calling themselves backward. The move made by the Union Cabinet, sidelining the best legal brains in the nation, smacks of mischievous intent and we are not in favour of it. All the three conditions put forth by the Supreme Court state to prove inadequate representation, prove backwardness and ensure administrative efficiency are justified and in interest of good governance.

Reservation ought to be given on the basis of worth, not merely on the basis of birth, said Mahatma Gandhi. In any country where professional and accountable governance practices are prevalent, reservation policy should be such that the disadvantaged class is merged into the socio-economic mainstream over a fixed number of years. During this period, as the government works towards improving the conditions of this class, reservations also have to be gradually withdrawn. Such gradual improvement must be quantified and periodically made public. As a result, eventually a level playing field is created. However, what we get to witness in India through successive governments is the same perverse story of vote bank appeasement. We hope the attorney general challenges this move by the government and restores sanity in the process.

My take: - Support reservations at the primary schooling level. Till the 12th standard. Build more schools. - Support some reservation for EBCs (Economically backward class) and people from rural area. - Do not spoon-feed people whove already made it past the 12th. They should fend for themselves. If they werent good at this level, they wont be much better off later. - Reservations (not based on merit) at the post-graduate level (IITs, IIMs, AIIMS) is ridiculous no way this should be implemented. - For EBCs, provide monetary support at any level. (Making sure merit is not compromised) - Remove the concept of castes. In a learned society, no one is inferior or superior. We have to get rid of this. No one should ask for the castes. Unless its for things like statistics that identify how a tribe has been evolving, moving around, etc.

its a very old saying that too much of anything is harmful.it is evident in india. due to historical backwardness and isolation a particular set of people had partial growth which was to be made right after independence through a method that would try to target the mass population of this community. the help went on to be showered without any rational and analytical assessment of the actual outcomes and who is the real beneficiary. As many people have posted that india is in a mess due to reservation, what i feel is that reservation policy if it was structured properly and was only applicable to the first generation of the sc/st population when it was formulated then it would have worked in a totally enabling manner. one cant assess a person through his place of birth but by his knowledge and skills but the people of sc/st have forced the rest to believe that they are not meritorious and can just climb up the stairs with the help of crutches. if our political leadership really wants to do something for the marginalized sections than has it ever tried to focus on how to bridge the gap between the people and try to unite them. just by adopting a carrot and stick policy no country has ever benefited including usa.

i have never seen or heard of a case in which a dalit or a tribal has come forward and said that his community doesnt want reservation and sympathy &they can drive der growth own their own. Reservation System, however, it CANNOT be on the basis of Caste. It can be based on economic classes of people, so that people from the under priviledged economic classes get equal opportunites. RESERVATION MUST BE REMOVED AND IF PEOPLE ARE ARE FINANCIALLY POOR PROVIDE FREE EDUCATION AND LODGING BOARDING FACILITIES TO SUCH PEOPLE WITHOUT LOOKING INTO CAST THATS WHAT IS REQUIRED TODAY. NOW THIS A TOOL FOR POLITICS AND POLITICIANS ARE UTALISING THIS TOOL TO GET POWER .

You forgot to add another category that is rampant in our society.. The rich class that simply 'buy' seats in other states and become the doctors or engineers. So, here money buys talent too.

Folks - If we are interested in inclusive growth of India, we have to think about majority of the population and that's not the forward castes. If majority of the population remains

underdeveloped, then there is no way country is going to grow.It is going to take us further down.

We are already seeing the effects of this underdevelopment.. Aren't we? If there is reservation than what is need of qualification and higher % of marks in education, employment. This is merely vote bank practice.Original backward class members are not care for any reservation.Practically all sc,st and obc are not get any mass benefit of that reservation. And all backward classes are not depend upon reservation. Reservation is not the solution. Poor are present in all religions & communities, the solution is to give free coaching, books etc to all poor irrrespective of their background. this reservation has created caste awareness even in educated people and is going to make this country weaker. Let`s not create hatred, let`s take all together irrespective of caste.
