Brief Lesson Plan in English III I.

Learning Objectives At the end of the one-hour discussion, 97% of the students are expected to: a. define Paraphrase; b. explain clearly how Paraphrase is helpful in understanding literary and academic texts; and c. write a Paraphrase of several texts. II. Learning Content Paraphrase Challenge of the Millennium III Marietta Aguado & Avelina Gil, et. al. 31-35 Materials: Cartolina with a written definition of Paraphrase Craft paper with written examples of paragraphs and their corresponding Paraphrases Craft paper with a written example of a poem to be paraphrased during the discussion Markers Individual copy of students favorite songs they are told to bring to be used in the quiz Craft paper written with the poem Sonnet to my Mother by George Baker Integrated Values: Respect in other peoples ideas Humility in accepting remarks Creativity in restating texts Integrated 21st Century Skills: Speaking skills during oral recitation Writing skills when paraphrasing texts Metacognition skills when deconstructing literary ideas III. Learning Experiences A. Review on the previous topic: Literary Symbols B. Introduction of the new lesson: Paraphrase C. Discussion 1. What is a Paraphrase? 2. What are the uses of Paraphrase? 3. How is Paraphrase important in your practical and academic life? 4. How do you paraphrase? 5. Do you think that paraphrasing a text then claiming it as your own work is right? Explain. D. Synthesis A Paraphrase is a restatement of the meanings of a passage in ones own words.

E. Quiz 1. Instructions: Paraphrase your favorite song in not more than ten sentences. 2. With a partner, write a Paraphrase of the poem Sonnet to my Mother by George Baker. IV. Assignments A. Write a Paraphrase of your favorite sonnet by William Shakespeare. 1. Submit it on a one-half crosswise sheet of tablet paper. 2. Due on January 8, 2013. B. What is a Simple Sentence? What is a Complex Sentence? Write atleast five examples each in your notebook. Reference: Challenge of the Millennium III Marietta Aguado & Avelina Gil, et. al. 42-45
