Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Reports to: Development Director Executive Director, Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation (SPPSF)

The Saint Paul Public Schools Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization that partners with the Saint Paul Public Schools, City of Saint Paul and community organizations to increase academic achievement for students attending Saint Paul Public Schools. The Foundation coordinates the Tutoring Partnership for Academic Excellence; makes grants to teachers, schools and community organizations; and engages the community in support of Saint Paul Public Schools. Primary Objectives of the Development Director This position provides both leadership and direct responsibility for all SPPSF fundraising activities. The Development Director will work in partnership with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to: (1) expand the SPPSFs capacity for raising private funds from individuals to support the organizations strategic goals; and (2) increase the SPPSFs image and visibility as a premier fundraising organization. Major Areas of Responsibility 1. Plans and manages all areas of individual giving including major and lower level gifts. Works with the Executive Director and Board members to directly solicit gifts from potential major donors. Manages the annual appeal. Provides print materials and staff support, as needed, to expand the donor base. 2. Coordinates the implementation of the SPPSF Development Plan. 3. Prepares and mobilizes the Board of Directors to expand their capacity for supporting the Foundations fundraising activities. 4. Coordinates the fundraising activities of the Executive Director and other SPPSF staff. 5. Creates and implements a planned giving program. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and conducts all follow-up activity related to planned giving for the SPPSF. 6. Works with the Executive Director to identify, research and cultivate individual, corporate, and foundation donors. 7. Coordinates and oversees implementation of corporate and foundation grant cultivation and solicitation process. 8. Organizes and provides staff support for all special events including the Academic Excellence Fundraising Breakfast and other fundraising events. 1

9. Identifies, researches and cultivates corporate sponsors for all SPPSF special events and programs. 10. Coordinates and provides staff support to the Alumni and Friends program. 11. Establishes and manages all donor recognition activities. 12. Oversees and assists other staff in maintaining individual and corporate giving records in the fundraising database and other appropriate files. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director 1. Attends appropriate Board committees. 2. Coordinates and communicates with appropriate staff and Board members about all fundraising and marketing activities. 3. Obtains up-to-date information on issues relative to Saint Paul public schools and the SPPSF. Position requirements include: 1. Bachelors degree or equivalent and at least five years of demonstrated success implementing a broad range of fund-raising strategies. Masters degree in philanthropy/non-profit management or equivalent, such as professional CFRE certification, is desirable. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with individual giving including major gifts. 3. Outstanding judgment, strategic thinking and project management skills; highly skilled at juggling multiple projects and priorities. 4. Excellent writing and communication skills. 5. Confidence and competence in learning and using existing and new technologies. 6. Enjoy working in a small, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment. 7. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact, communicate, and collaborate with people from cultural backgrounds other than your own. The work of our organization changes as we continuously seek to have greater impact. All of our team members must be flexible and able to adapt to short and long-term shifts in their job duties. Typical physical requirements for this position include: 1. Ability to work at a computer workstation in an ergonomically correct environment. 2. Ability to travel for business activities such as meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the area. Classification: Exempt
