Microsoft Service Pack Uninstall Tool for Microsoft Office 2010 Client Applicatio ns 2010 Microsoft Corporation.

. All rights reserved. Traditionally, Office Service Pack patches cannot be uninstalled without complet ely uninstalling the Office product. With the release of Office 2010 service pac ks may be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in the Co ntrol Panel. For administrators or advanced users this command line tool (oarpma n.exe) may also be used to uninstall client patches included in Microsoft Office 2010 Service Pack 1 (or higher).

Key Highlights/Info: Assists in uninstalling client patches only. Does not uninstall server patches. Assists in uninstalling the client patches for Office 2010 Service Pack 1 or hig her. Does not uninstall hotfix or public update patches. Does not uninstall Offi ce 2007 Service Pack patches (you would need to use the Office 2007 version of t he tool which can be found on the download center). Command line tool, so help can be accessed by running oarpman /help from the comma nd line. This will describe each of the available commands. Using the /log switch with the /report switch provides some extra information in the log that is not output to the console. A release is a collection of patches. To see what releases are available for unins tall, use the /report switch. The 2010 SP Uninstall Tool will remove all of a gi ven release. It does not uninstall per patch, or per product. For example, if y ou have Microsoft Visio Service Pack 1, Microsoft SharePoint Designer Service Pa ck 1, and Microsoft Office Professional Service Pack 1 on the computer, the tool will attempt to uninstall all three. The /report switch will only display patches that are part of a release that the tool can uninstall. When logging is enabled with /remove, the MSI logs are also copied into the same directory as the oarpman log.

Basic Workflow: 1 - User installs (or has already installed) Service Pack 1 or higher. 2 - User downloads the 2010 SP Uninstall Tool and expands the package to a worki ng directory. Please Note: You must choose a subfolder for expanding the tool (e.g., c :\subdir). You cannot expand the tool into the root directory of the drive (e.g. , c:\). 3 - User opens a command prompt under administrator context and navigates to oar pman.exe. 4 - User wants to see what the tool can do, so types: oarpman /help Help is shown, describing the tool and switches. 5 - User wants to see what can be uninstalled, so types: oarpman /report /log c:\ logfolder\logname.log The /log switch is optional, but does provide extra information that is not displayed to the console window. 6 - User now looks at the console window, or opens the log, and notes what patch es are installed. Also, identifies what releases are installed by looking at the Release column. 7 - User wants to remove the Service Pack from the machine, so types: oarpman /re move <release name> /log c:\logfolder\logname.log This will begin removing the Service Pack release from the computer, cre ate an oarpman log, and copy the MSI logs to the path specified with the /log sw itch. The time it takes to uninstall will vary, based on how many products are i

nstalled, how many Service Pack updates are installed, the speed of your process or, etc. Uninstall may take as long, or slightly longer, than it took to install the Service Pack updates. 8 - User may run oarpman /report again to verify that all releases have been remov ed.

Troubleshooting: The installed version of Windows Installer is not supported by this tool. The tool requires the same version of Windows Installer (3.1 or higher) required by the Microsoft Office 2010 for patching. The tool must be executed from a mac hine that has the appropriate version of MSI. Release not found. You may have typed the release value incorrectly. Check that you typed the relea se value as specified in the Release column of the tools report (oarpman /report) . Uninstall successful. Please reboot. The updates have been installed, however installation cannot complete until the machine is rebooted. The likely cause for this is that some files that needed to be updated were in use while the tool was uninstalling patches. Unable to create log file. Check path of file name. In order to create the log, a valid, full path and file name must be specified w ith the /log switch. Verify that the path and file name are valid. This tool requires administrative permissions. You must be a local administrator in order to use the tool to /remove a release. Check your permissions. If using Vista, you must run from an administrator comm and prompt. Uninstall failed. Check logs if logging enabled. The tool has failed to remove some or all of the patches in the specified releas e. Refer to the log files for information on specific patches. Try running the r eport again (oarpman /report) and see if any Service Pack patches from that rele ase are still installed. If some patches remain, try removing the release again.
