Last April 18, 2013 RC Holy Spirit D3780 defined the framework for the clubs plan for RY 2013-14 and the years thereafter, including a re -visit of its long-term Vision, and updates on the thrusts for Club Administration, Membership Development, Community Service Projects, Service for and by the New Generation, TRF, and Public Image. The baseload for community service projects to serve at least 5,000 beneficiaries in 2013-14 has been readily defined from a number of service projects that the club has been doing annually with dedicated partners such as UST alumni, SM Foundation, Sacred Heart of Mary, SION volunteers, and QC Red Cross; by the continuing literacy programs such as alternative learning systems, in-school mentoring by Interactors for lower performing schoolmates, weekly learningfeeding program for 40 indigent preschool kids in Payatas, and member-sponsored scholarship grants for high-school graduates; and by

Rotarys Council on Legislation approves satellite clubs

Rotary News 23 April 2013

In an effort to boost membership, the 2013 Council on Legislation approved a measure on Monday providing for satellite clubs, whose members meet at a different time and location from their parent club but who are also considered members of the parent club. Delegates from Rotarys 532 districts are meeting in Chicago 21-26 April to consider changes to the policies that govern Rotary International and its clubs. The council is held every three years to debate proposals submitted by Rotary clubs, districts, and the RI Board of Directors. The change approved on Monday, one of 174 pieces of legislation, amends the RI Bylaws to allow Rotary clubs to form satellite clubs in the same locality or the surrounding area. Where and when a satellite club holds its regular meetings will be decided by its members, who also will be admitted into membership of the sponsor club. The satellite club will choose its own officers, and be able to seek a charter when it has enough members. Supporters of the measure contend that it will increase membership, and that it avoids situations in which prospective members start a provisional club, fail to attract enough members to seek a charter, and then become discouraged and stop seeking Rotary membership. Satellite clubs are allowed to operate indefinitely, and their members are considered full-fledged Rotarians by virtue of their membership in the parent club. In other action, delegates:

Approved a measure allowing participation in club projects to count toward club attendance requirements. The measure amends the Standard Rotary Club Constitution to provide that a member must attend or make up at least 50 percent of club regular meetings or engage in club projects for at least 12 hours in each half of the year, or a combination of both. Removed the travel reimbursement policy from the RI Bylaws. This will enable the RI Board of Directors to develop a policy that is flexible, able to address emergency travel situations, and able to take advantage of cost-saving opportunities. Defeated measures that would have allowed clubs to meet less frequently. One measure would have permitted clubs to meet once every two weeks, and another three times a month. The delegates also rejected a measure that would have allowed a club to cancel six regular meetings a year instead of four, for holidays, the death of a club member, disasters, or other emergencies.

Get vote totals and download proposed legislation. Watch a video of delegates talking about the process and read updates all week on www.rotary.org. Follow the Council on Twitter at #col13.

Note from RC Holy Spirit D3780 on the Membership Pilot Programs of Rotary International Four pilot programs began on 1 July 2011 and run through 30 June 2014: Associate Member Pilot; Corporate Member Pilot; Innovative & Flexible Rotary Club Pilot; and Satellite Club Pilot. RI chose 200 participating Rotary clubs for each of the four pilot programs. Our club. RC Holy Spirit D3780, has been participating in the Associate Member Pilot with favourable results. While the 2013 Council on Legislation already approved the satellite clubs, the associate member pilot would be taken up by the 2016 COL according to the original timeline.

Principles that Guide Rotary

The Object of Rotary
First formulated in 1910, the Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The Four-Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do

Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

ROTARIANS PLEDGE

5 Avenues of Service
Based on the Object of Rotary, the Five Avenues of Service are Rotarys philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
