oes anyone know about priority of activities before startup a steam turbine and warming as well thoroughly?e.g.

separation gas must be flown into the DGS barrier before running the lube oil system. 10 days ago Like CommentFollow Flag More P C Verma likes this 7 comments

Follow Meysam Meysam Samiei Dear Jahn, my question is about procedure of steam turbine cold start-up .Auxiliary systems same as lube oil system, control oil system, cooling water system, surface condenser etc. must be checked and run or ready and some valves must be opened or closed before starting the turbine. I also know my question is general and so items are included but in this stage, I like exactly to know about main items or those items which are vital for a normal start up briefly. Follow Meysam Meysam Samiei some major items that must be considered as pre-start checks are as below: 1- alignment of turbine and its coupling and compressor must be checked in accordance with field alignment drawing of manufacturer. 2-the condenser, feed heater, boiler, etc. are ready for operation in accordance with mfg instruction. 3-all steam piping, expansion joints and pipe supports, are correctly installed and ready for operation.

4-all oil piping, including the additional field piping has been correctly installed and flushed. 5-the exhaust piping rupture disc is properly installed. 6-the T&T valve and non-return valves are correctly installed and closed. 7-all electrical equipment, devices, instrument and switches are correctly connected. 8-the ejector motive steam supply is piped and ready for operation and the motive steam supply shut off valve is closed. 9-coupling guard are installed. 10-all shipping braces must are removed. 11-all steam piping has been blown down. 12-all drain valve are open.

now operator can begin the start-up as following items respectively: 1- starting the lubrication and control system. including below: 1-1-the oil reservoir is filled with oil to the bottom of spill tray. 1-2-the oil temp. in reservoir is above 25C; if not , the heater must be turned on. 1-3-rundown tank must be checked. 2-the turning gear can be engaged and run for a minimum 4 hours. 3-warming the inlet steam line.during this stage draining shall be done through T&T drains and all drain valves of casing must remain open until the unit is delivering about 10% load. 4-gland evacuation system must be checked based on its type whether is atmospheric or subatmospheric. 5-trip systems must reset. if anybody has comment please inform me. 2 days ago Like1

Follow Anantha Anantha Sri Purnima what are T & T valves and non return valves? can you please brief about their role and importance during the start up of the turbines? 1 day ago Like

Follow John John Mitchell Anantha, trip and throttle valves are used in series with the main governing valves, during startup and as emergency protection. Non-return valves allow steam to be extracted from the turbine but not returned. Maysam, you made a fairly good startup list, there. Keep up the good work. 1 day ago Like
