What will you use to measure student understanding? Students will respond in their journals to this writing prompt: I would/would not like to be a police officer because. Students must list at least 2 reasons why or why not. They will draw a picture to go with their writing. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, i.e., police officers, fire fighters, and nurses. Writing about why they would or would not like to be a police officer and the reasons why will demonstrate that students have an understanding of the occupation of a police officer. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? Trooper Bogdens part will be the easiest part of the lesson. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of the lesson will be when the students have the opportunity to ask questions. It might be a challenge to keep the students from sharing their own police stories as opposed to asking questions. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? This lesson will be followed up with a lesson on a different community helper. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont understand the concepts in this lesson, I would review the KW-L chart from Day 3, focusing on the L part. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? The police vehicle tour may need to be changed because that might be too many students at one time. I would consider dividing the class and having half stay in and do the assessment while the other half does the tour, then switch. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? I really didnt have any difficulty with writing this lesson plan.
