Each table group (consisting of 4-6 students) will be assigned one of the occupations and will be given a few minutes to discuss one detail to add to the circle map. 3. Teacher will write each groups response on the circle map to which it belongs. 4. Table groups will then be given a large piece of construction paper and assigned a different occupation and will be instructed to complete a circle map for that occupation. F. CLOSURE: Table groups will be given four cards with a picture of one of the four occupations studied on each card. One student will pick a card and must act out the occupation on their card. The other students in the group must guess which occupation is being portrayed. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Students will pick one community helper we have studied and write 3 facts in their writing journals about that occupation. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students must Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, i.e., police officers, fire fighters, and nurses. Writing three facts about a community helper will demonstrate that students have an understanding of that occupation. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The circle maps will be the easiest part to teach. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of the lesson will be when the students have to act out the different occupations. This might be difficult if students have never had the opportunity to play charades. 2. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? This is the end of the unit so I probably wouldnt extend this lesson. However, if I did want to continue this theme I would probably have another guest speaker like a firefighter come in and talk about his/her job. 3. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont understand the concepts in this lesson, I would finish the circle maps that I started on the white board by adding just a few more details to each one. I would prompt the students with questions such as What does a letter carrier do? and What do nurses wear to work? etc. to get the students to help me complete the maps. 4. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?
