After reading the book, have a short discussion about jobs discussed in the book. 3. Have students get into small groups of four. Each group will be given a large sheet of chart paper. Each group will pick an occupation that helps people, that wasnt discussed in the book. Students will draw a picture of the worker and also a short description of how they help people. 4. Each group will present their chart paper to the class. As the group is presenting students need to write down all the occupations being shared and how they help the community. 5. E. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use a formative assessment for this lesson. I will pay attention to the discussions in the classrooms and how well they participate. I will also collect each of their drawings and hang them up on the walls for this unit. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Students will be able to Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people. If students can successfully complete their chart papers with their drawing of a community helper and a short description, I will know they can identify and describe occupations in the community that help people. F. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think it will be easy to teach about the jobs that help people, for example police officers, firefighters, and doctors. I think it will be easy for students to think of those types of jobs because it seems like common knowledge. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the challenging part will be for students to think outside the box with certain occupations. The book will go over the obvious ones but things like a park ranger or mailman might be a little less obvious. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? Students can write about what they want to be when they grow up. They can describe how this job would either help people, the environment, or someone in need. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who dont grasp the concept, we could go on the internet and find a list of jobs. We can explore the things they do and relate it to the community. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I wouldnt really change anything about the lesson; I think it would work successfully in a classroom. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? Finding a book that was appropriate was the most difficult part. I found books that were catered to one job mostly. The lesson I got this from had a book called Old Macdonald had a Community. It seemed like a great book for kids but I couldnt

find it anywhere. I didnt want to use something that teachers who not be able to easily access so I had to change up my plans a little bit.

This is the book that will be red to the classroom.

This is the chart paper to be used for activity.
