Did you post anonymously? I'm not doing anything with this, and I don't want to deal with any City drama. John and I had lunch, he apologized, I forgave. As far as I'm concerned, I have no ax to grind....(as long as he doesn't try to mess with my projects!) But, after Jeremy's call Friday I did my own little email search and came up with this. It clearly exists on City servers, and although it doesn't mention anything about anonymous posts, it says just enough about blogs and is a directive from John. Just saying, I think a lesson was learned by our young friend at City Hall. Nobody wins if this keeps going the direction it's going, and I think going down this path opens the door for a lot of other stuff that isn't good for the City, John, or anyone. Anyway, just my $.02. Your call what you do, I'm staying out of it. But I think you got the point across very clearly. Thanks for tolerating my unsolicited advice! I did so last week with Jamie and will continue to....told him "the Mayor has said what his intentions are, the Charter is clear, and anybody who continues to complain or ask where is the Mayor simply hasn't been listening." Also worth mentioning that not only is designee in attendance but any dept director with business before the Council also attends - per request from the Mayor.

D and T, In the event an opportunity presents itself to address the erroneous statement that the Charter requires the Mayor to attend City Council meeting, please state the following to the presenter: The charter lists 15 "powers and duties" for the mayor, but attendance at council meetings is a "power" and therefore discretionary, instead of a "duty. The fact that the mayor has no vote indicates that attendance at council meetings would be a discretionary power, one that he may exercise or decline or execute through a designee.
In the Mayor's absence, the Mayor has always sent a designee to the City Council meetings which fulfills his duty under the Charter. The statement that the Charter requires the Mayor's attendance at City Council meetings is simply wrong and should be challenged at every opportunity. JFA John F.
