CHINESE GOVERNMENT THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND NZ FORESTRY INVESTMENT THRUST The Chinese Government has put its might behind the push by its countrys enterprises to expand their growing presence in the New Zealand forestry sector. A message in Chinese on the China Forestry Group Corporation regarding a visit Prime Minister John Key made to China in April notes the growth of investments in forestry and forest products in New Zealand. The sale was made by the NZ Superannuation Fund, which invests money, on behalf of the New Zealand Government, and was approved by the Overseas Investment Office. http://wp.me/p2ypvs-Fb MUTED CELEBRATION AS TASMANIA FOREST DEAL GOES THROUGH PARLIAMENT The Parliament in the Australian state of Tasmania may have passed a historic forest peace deal but the celebrations appear to be muted. The forest industry agreed with the historic nature of the deal but warned the real issue will be putting it into effect. pace, the Chilean group Arauco has reported in a statement. The project was announced by the CEO of Celulose Riograndense, Walter Lidio Nunes, who was joined by the State Secretary for Social Development, Luis Augusto Lara, and Cabinet Secretary for Mayors and Federative Relations, Afonso Motta, and 23 more mayors of metropolitan regions and Carboniferous. http://wp.me/p2ypvs-EA CORRIENTES POLICIES ADDING VALUE TO WOOD The government in the Argentine province of Corrientes is working with the industry to develop and implement projects to add value to timber. FAIMA, the wood industry agency, has reported the Corrientes Strategic Industrial Forestry Plan aims to create a large group of wood-based industries under the Secretariat of Industry in coordination with other areas of the Production Ministry and other ministries with the aim of generating genuine employment and economic development. http://wp.me/p2ypvs-Eh FOREST WORKER DEATHS SPARKS CALL FOR SAFETY INQUIRY A labour union in the New Zealand wood sector is warning that little is being learned from the spate of deaths in the countrys industrial forests. A 23 year old forestry worker died recently near Waitara in Taranaki, the fourth worker to die this year.
