Online Content Manager Reporting to: Hours: Salary: Term: Location: Benefits: Other benefits: Job summary The Online Content Manager will project manage the development of the new XXX website, e-bulletin and online learning community, producing and managing online content, and overseeing the moderation of the online learning community. 70% of their time will be spent on this project. In addition, the Online Content Manager will lead the redevelopment of the charitys main website www.XXX.org.uk, working closely with colleagues across the charity. They will ensure consistency between XXXs websites, microsites and e-bulletins, and safeguard the charitys corporate identity and brand values across its various online platforms. They will also act as a source of expert advice and support to colleagues on all online publishing issues. This will include coaching staff on how to structure and write content for an online audience, advising staff on opportunities for developing interactive content, and advising on the further development of existing microsites. Key objectives To project manage the development of the XXX website, e-bulletin and online learning community, ensuring that activities are delivered on schedule and to budget. To oversee the redevelopment of the charitys main website. To research, write, commission, edit and publish accurate and effective online content. To ensure that online content meets high editorial standards. To provide expert advice and support to colleagues on online publishing issues. Key responsibilities Planning, development and project management To project manage the new XXX website, e-bulletin and online learning community, ensuring that activities are delivered in line with the agreed business plan, budget and timescales. To lead a review of the purpose, users, structure and design of the charitys main website, and project manage its redevelopment. To ensure coherence across the charitys various websites, microsites and e-bulletins. To play a key role in developing the design and functionality of online content, commissioning work from external suppliers and monitoring their performance.

To develop editorial plans, ensuring that online content supports the charitys objectives and meets users needs. To control budgets for relevant activities, including preparing costings and checking monthly management accounts.

Producing and managing content To research, write, commission, edit and publish content for websites and e-bulletins, including: Researching and writing content for professional audiences. Sourcing content from in-house and external experts. Conducting interviews and writing up case studies of good practice. Creating new web pages and updating, refreshing and developing existing pages. Editing existing content and migrating it to new web pages. Exploring and monitoring links to and from external websites.

To ensure appropriate links between XXXs websites and, working with marketing colleagues, to ensure effective cross-promotion of our products and services. To ensure content is optimised for search engines. Using their knowledge of stakeholders information needs, to contribute to the development of XXX printed materials as appropriate.

User needs To gain a good understanding of users and how they navigate through our content, in order to improve navigation and usability. To understand users information needs, including by analysing interim findings on the impact of the XXX project, attending events held as part of the XXX project, testing and piloting draft content, and conducting user research. To incorporate user feedback, creating engaging content that is appropriate to the relevant target audiences.

Moderation To encourage debate and discussion in the XXX online learning community from registered users. To monitor user-generated content. To ensure that content is appropriately moderated and inappropriate material is dealt with efficiently and effectively, working with the Head of Research and Development, who has overall responsibility for ensuring that the charity provides authoritative information on XXX.

Quality assurance and editorial standards To ensure that online content provides accurate information on XXX and how to prevent them, by undertaking desk-based research, liaising closely with specialist staff and advisors, and obtaining relevant sign-offs. To ensure that online content meets high editorial standards, is up-to-date, accessible, relevant to users needs, has an appropriate and consistent tone of voice, and follows house style guidelines. To safeguard the charitys corporate identity and brand values.

Monitoring and evaluation To monitor, evaluate and report on site traffic, user behaviour and trends, to underpin improvements in performance and future developments.

Support to colleagues To act as a source of expert advice and support to colleagues in the charity on all online publishing issues. To coach contributors on how to structure and write content for an online audience, identifying training needs and recommending training courses as appropriate. To collaborate with colleagues to increase web traffic and e-bulletin subscriptions.

Other To represent the charity at external meetings and events. To contribute to bids to secure funds for new work, including by developing costings and commenting on proposals.

General To attend and participate in internal meetings, as appropriate. To work closely with other members of the staff team, keeping abreast of useful developments, sharing useful contacts, communicating plans and ensuring that online content activities are fully integrated within the charitys other activities. To develop a personal knowledge base on XXX, to underpin effective working. To ensure that the charitys equal opportunities and diversity policies are followed through in all aspects of work.

Person specification E = Essential Knowledge and experience: 1. Experience of managing a major project with demonstrable results 2. A sound grasp of how to organise online information effectively for users, including how to use architecture and navigation effectively 3. A good grasp of the technical capabilities of websites 4. Experience of writing for and editing websites and online newsletters, including producing content for an information-driven website 5. Experience of using a content management system 6. Experience of using WordPress CMS, internet forum software packages, web analytics tools, creating web banners and devising online surveys Skills and abilities: 7. Skilled at structuring and writing content for an online audience 8. Excellent copywriting/journalistic skills able to write quickly and concisely, in an accessible and engaging style for a professional audience 9. Ability to summarise, adapt and repurpose print copy for online communication 10. Excellent editing skills, able to translate jargon into user-friendly copy while retaining accuracy 11. Excellent sub-editing and proofreading skills 12. Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail, in order to plan and schedule projects, respond flexibly to opportunities, and hit deadlines 13. Good analytical skills and the ability to draw meaningful conclusions 14. Creative thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities, suggest ideas and turn them into workable plans 15. Strong inter-personal and networking skills, able to build rapport and relationships with people at all levels 16. Ability to commission services from a range of freelancers/suppliers 17. Good numeracy, in order to undertake accurate costings and monitor actual expenditure against budget 18.
