(TE 226) How do laws helps set up the way a local government works? (TE 227) How do citizens help make decisions about taxes? (TE 228) What does an elected city council do? (TE 228) What do county commissioners do? 5. Discuss with your group-Critical Thinking? What do you think would happen if us as students dont follow classroom rules, like raising your hand before speaking? Or not asking permission before leaving the classroom? What are some rules you have at home that your parents have established? 6. CLOSURE: Discuss the three statements on Review/Assess (TE 229) J. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? Students will write two-short paragraphs describing our local government duties and two different types of laws that help us citizens stay safe. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. By having students complete a short paragraph paper I will be able to analyze if students understand the different rules and laws that help keep our community safe. K. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the easiest part to teach will be engaging the students as our discussion continues, I will stop and ask questions that relate our reading with real life examples. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part to teach for this lesson would be teaching this lesson without having a guest speaker discuss the duties in their own words. That would be something great to have in class, and an unforgettable experience. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? To extend this lesson, I will have students go home and come back with suggestions in regards to our laws. For example, what laws they would like implemented in our city and why? Students will be able to apply these suggestions real life scenarios. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For my students that dont grasp the concepts, I would spend more time working with them in small groups. And, I will also provide pictures of laws that keep our community safe. I would first find out what it is they are struggling with, and then I would work with them from there.

5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I think this lesson is very well planned out, I dont think I would change anything. I would highly consider using this lesson plan in the future. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? When writing this lesson plan the most difficult part was deciding on the assessment, as this is a huge factor in lessons because we want to know if our students understand and what is it that they do not understand. I think the best assessments come from reading and writing, therefore I will have my students write two short paragraphs about what we learned.
