The Queen Power

The queen has almost absolute The queen can choose anybody she like to run the government

The queen could just dismiss the ministers if she gets fed up with him.
The queen appears to have great power over parliament The queen is above the law The queen can not choose anyone she like to be prime minister The queen could refuse the royal assent to a bill passed by parliament and stop becoming law- no monarch has actually done since year 708

When The Queen opens Parliament each year the speech she makes has been written for her
.The Queen makes no secret of this fact.

The Queen very reads out the script that has been prepared for her, word for word. The Queen cannot actually stop the government going ahead with any its policies.

The role of monarch

The Monarch is the personal embodiment of the government of the country. The Monarch could act as a final check on a government ever managed to pass a
bill through Parliament which was obviously terribly bad and very unpopular, the monarch could refuse the royal assent and the bill would not become law.

The Monarch has a very practical role to play. By being a figure head and
representing the country, Queen Elizabeth II can perform the ceremonial duties which heads of state often have to spend their time on. This way, the real government has more time to get on with the actual job of running the country.

The Value of The Monarch

KEY FINDINGS
The estimated total annual cost of the monarchy to taxpayers is 202.4m, around five times the official figure published by the royal household (38.3m last year). The official figure excludes a number of costs, including round-the-clock security, lavish royal visits and lost revenue from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. Civil List expenditure has increased by 94 per cent in real terms over the last two decades.

202.4m is equivalent to the cost of 9,560 nurses, 8,200 police officers, annual Ministry of Defence
spending on food and the total reduction in Sure Start funding.

Key finding
The British monarchy is 112 times as expensive as the Irish president and more than twice as expensive as the French semi-presidential system. Britain's royal family is the most expensive in Europe at more than double the cost of the Dutch monarchy. Taxpayers are kept in the dark about the exact cost of the monarchy, due to the royal household's exemption from the Freedom of Information Act and widespread misunderstanding about the nature of the royal family's finances.
