Missional Wisdom Foundation commissions Rev. Jerry Moore as the first Abbot for The Epworth Project.

The directors of the Missional Wisdom Foundation announced today that Rev. Jerry Moore will join their full-time staff in June. He will serve as the first Abbot for The Epworth Project, a network of intentional communities and houses of new monasticism in Dallas/Fort Worth. He will be commissioned at a Sending Forth service for Epworth residents on Thursday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Dallas. The Abbot position has been funded by a major grant from the Texas Methodist Foundation. We are delighted to welcome Jerry to our team, said Rev. Dr. Elaine Heath, Co-Founder of the Foundation. He brings many gifts and much wisdom to this role. We also recognize that appointing our first abbot represents a significant step forward in the growth of the Foundation. We are grateful to the Texas Methodist Foundation for the generous grant that makes this possible. The Epworth Project houses anchor learning communities for persons being formed in missional and new monastic expressions of ministry. Rev. Moore has served in pastoral ministry in the Northwest Texas Conference for more than 30 years, including serving as the chair of the Order of Elders for eight years. For the past two years, he has been a part-time faculty member and spiritual director for the Academy for Missional Wisdom, roles that he will continue as he assumes leadership of The Epworth Project. I am looking forward to concentrating my full attention on the work of the Missional Wisdom Foundation, said Rev. Moore. Serving on the faculty of the Academy has offered me the opportunity to encourage the ongoing formation of clergy and laity at many unique phases of their spiritual life. As Abbot, of The Epworth Project, I will be able to continue this work within a faith community in a more intentional way. Rev. Moore studied Industrial Arts at Amarillo College, and holds an Associates of Science degree from Clarendon College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from West Texas State University and a Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. His post-graduate studies include an Advanced Certification in Formative Spirituality from Epiphany Academy, Independent Research in Formative Spirituality with Dr. Adrian van Kaam and Dr. Susan Muto in Pittsburgh, PA, Independent Research in Formative Spirituality at Seton Cove Hospital in Indianapolis, and Independent Research in Formative Awareness with Dr. Vincent Bilotta in Providence, RI. The Missional Wisdom Foundation is a private non-profit corporation that supports the education and Christian development of adults in Missional theology, through service and new monasticism. -30-
