PowerPoint includes information on the region of the Great Plains, The Sioux People, their homes, food, jobs/hobbies, transportation, clothing, art, and tools. 3. Venn Diagram/Discussion: Compare and Contrast the Sioux to American People today, narrow down to Nevadans. 4. Read If You Lived with the Sioux Indians, discuss the book. 5. Make Tortilla Teepees. Give directions and pass out materials. Have students color and cut some landform to go around their teepee on the plate. Have student paint their teepees with the food coloring. Students will bring up their entire project and I will hot glue gun the teepees on their plates. 6. CLOSURE: Review information learned about the Sioux Native Americans or Indians. Put our teepees on table for display, students can share their teepee and talk about why they put whatever materials/colors on it. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure the students understanding by observing, collecting their venn diagrams, and monitoring student participation in class discussion Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. By asking them questions throughout the class and viewing what items they put around their teepee to represent the Sioux culture. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the PowerPoint and teaching students about the life of the Sioux Indians will be the easiest part. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? Everyone isnt good and arts and crafts. I think the hardest part is going to be putting the teepees together. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? Id extend this lesson by going beyond making the teepee. Students would work in groups to make a mini replica of an actual village site. Theyd have to explain why they designed it the way they did. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

Title of Unit: Native Americans Region Unit Plan Title of Lesson: Getting to Know the Sioux (L7) Submitted By: LaQuisha Johnson and Cathy Galvan I will review the PowerPoint again, show the students more pictures and have them give me explanation. Maybe making a timeline or using another type of graphic organizer will help the students grasp the information about the Sioux Indians. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I actually think this lesson would go pretty well the way it is. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part was finding something fun, but educational to do. That is why I decided to make the teepees. It is something fun, but its educational because it directly relates to what they just learned.
