You can form your own lock picks from flat, cold-rolled steel 0.020 to 0.025 inches thick. The strip
should be of about 6 inches in length and at least 0.30 inches wide. One end is either fitted with a
handle or both ends to be used as working surfaces.

tension tool.

Lock picking considerations

Hold the pick as you would a pencil. Don't use your wrist, your fingers will work much
better for manpulating the lock.

Steady your hand with your little finger against the door. When working on a in-knob
cylinder, steady your hand against the edge of the knob.

Your pick should enter the keyway above the tension tool without moving any of the
tumblers. If it doesn't the tension tool is either too high in the lock or the key grooves are
such that tension tool must go to the very top of the keyway.
