Week 1: Day One Context: Structure Lesson time frame 1:30 min Part of Lesson and description 1. Introductions: Syllabus and other handouts given/ class information: have students share their majors and names. Explain how the class will be set up. 2. Warm up: Ask students the following questions: What is your most favorite clothing ensemble? Have student glance at the vocabulary page for ideas and vocabulary. 3. Vocabulary review: Have students use the vocabulary book page for reference 190-191. The pictures will not have the word. Student will have to figure out what the item is by referencing on the vocabulary page. Then students have to say which season of the year this item is appropriate for. 4. Controlled practice: TPR have students stand on a circle and name a sport, place or activity and toss a foam or paper ball to a student. Then the student has three seconds to name a clothing item that goes with it. The same student then names another sport , place,or activity and tosses the ball to another student. If a student cannot think of an item then he gets eliminated and the last person standing wins. 5. Vocabulary review/recap: Go over the colors by pointing at clothing items in the classroom and asking students what color these are. Then ask students to tell you any item in the class that corresponds to a color. Example, is there something blue in this classroom? 2

6. Controlled practice: Give out student handout of destinations and suit cases. Students are to work on groups and they must ask each other their destination and clothing items then have students report their answers back to the class. One student reports the other students responses. 7. Communication practice: Have students look around in the classroom and examine each person in the class. Then have student write down one persons character tics. Then in pairs students are to describe that persons clothing and have the other person guess who that it is. Write questions on the board for the students to elicit responses. Questions: what is this person wearing? What color is that clothing items?

8. Structure overview: Go over Saber and Conocer/ know and know. Use the power point 6.1 and show it to the class. Explain the difference between these two and give examples. Saber means to know a fact, price, know how to do something and information. Conocer is to be familiar or acquainted with a person place or thing. Give examples of such with complete sentences and write them on the board. 9. Extended overview/practice: In pairs have students ask each other weather they wish to know a famous person, a place and a new skill. Students are to write these down and report to the class. Also, that prices can be bargained and the sellers sometimes let you try the product or food. 6. Reading Practice: Have students read los mercados libres in turns and the profile on Carolina Herrera. 7. Comprehension check/homework: Go over the activity section 1 and 2. Ask individual students for questions. 8. Cultural Practice: TPR Have students write sellers and buyers on separate sheets of paper. Pronunciation Guided practice: Go over the pronunciation section on consonants D and S. Explain that D has a hard sound at the beginning of a phrase or after N or l , Give examples: Don, Dinero. Explain that D has a soft sound on all other positions, say the following medias and verde. Within phrases d at the beginning of a word has a soft sound or hard. Use power point 6.3 to project the conjugation table on the board. Tell students to play close attention to the changes and alert them that yo el conjugations all have accent mark on the last syllable. Go over verbs that end on car-gar-zar- and the spelling changes on creer , leer and oir. Then describe somethings that you did yesterday, using the first person preterite, Ex: Yesterday I bought a new jacket at the mall, I went in and I bought one and then I saw a hat and I bought it. Each time you introduce a form write it on the board. 11. Extended practice: after you have used several regular first verbs expand by asking students questions about what they did.

12. Homework check 208 1,2,3 as a class go over these and have students report answers. 13. Extended practice : have students get up. Tell them to create a story chain about a student who had a very bad day. Begin by saying , Yesterday, Carlos went thru a horrible day. In order to sit down students must contribute and the last person must conclude the story.

2. Structure 6.4 Review/ : Using the powerpoint 6.4 explain students how are demonstratives adjectives and pronouns are used . Point at the book on your desk and say : This book is on the desk of the teacher. Then point at the book by the window and say that book is close to the window. Repeat procedure with numerous items in the classroom. Also point out that the masculine forms este and ese do not end in os , estos, esos. Hold up or point objects and have students point to objects and have students give you the plural. Repeat with forms of ese and aquel with other nouns. 3. Homework review: Go over activities 2,5 to make sure that student did these. Ask students to give you the responses for these and 9

explain why the answer is this or that. 4. Grammar communicative Practice: Divide students into groups of three to role play a scene between a sales person and two costumers. The costumers should ask about the different items of clothing on picture 5 on 213, then the sale person will answer the price. The costumers then say which ones they like and make a decision. Have students write their question and responses on a sheet of paper and go over these as a whole class. 5. Continued practice: In Small groups get students to take out their family picture, sports team , friends and have them take turns asking about and identifying the people on those pictures. 6. Ex. Who is that woman 7. ? that one with the red shirt she is my mother. Go back as a class and check some students answers. 8. Conversation: Have students answer the questions on 4 on 213 using the model as example and word bank. 9. Reading 6 : Have students go over the shopping ad on this section. Remind students that the prices on the ad have periods which in English a coma is in place. Point out that show sizes in latin America are different than the united states. Have 10

Have a student of a team take out a slip from the bag . The team member mimes wearing the item of clothing and the other team guess what it is and they have to say how much it is if its listed on the ad. 11.
