Air Conditioners: My plan was to make sure than all the air-cons in my household were 24 and above. Also to make sure that we put a timer on for 30 minutes before we fall asleep. Fan/Window: Another part of my plan is to make sure that I turn the fan on more than air-con and open the windows to replace air-con as long as you can. Water Heater: Turning the water heater off directly after you shower is a good idea so that the electricity doesnt keep heating up water that we dont need. Also we can turn the heater on about ten minutes before your shower. To make sure that unneeded water is heated. Electrical Outlets: To reduce energy taking out plugs from outlets is a good idea when you are not using the plug for anything.

Introduction
Earth has very limited resources that we need for our everyday life. Our main resource is fossil fuels. We need fossil fuels so that we can make electricity which is a need in everyones life. But why do we waste energy and ignore the fact that someday it is going to run out? In ISKL the Grade 8 math classes are doing a project that would hopefully lower down their families electricity consumption.

Project (How my family saved electricity)

In the beginning of the year we started a project where each family would try to reduce their electricity or water consumption. Our family decided to save electricity. We saved electricity by making specic goals that would help reduce electricity consumption. These goals were achieved by making a neat and organized plan in which I made detailed amounts of time and degrees for different electricity using machines. (The plan is on the text box on the right) Looking at the table and graph in the other page, I have an up-and-down pattern. But when I make a scatter plot and mark the points, the tted line is thankfully a linear decay. This is because of the method I used to remind me and my family. I got bright pink post-it notes and stuck them next to light switches, air-con switches and heaters to remind them to turn the power off when you arent using it. Since the bright color catches our attention it has worked effectively to make sure we turned the lights off. Also I put the really small post-its to stick next to the electrical outlets to remind us to pull the plug out so that the unneeded energy does not stay in the plug. I think that looking at the models, my family was pretty persistent to lower down our electricity consumption and was determined to try and make a difference.

Equation Making and Prediction

Making the equation for the fitted line: I first need to find two points that are on the fitted line. My two points are (3,1120) and (7,840). And what I do with these numbers is to put them into this formula: so my slope-intercept form would now be: y = -70x + b and to find be we put one of the ordered pairs in to substitute x and y. 1120 = -70(3) +b is simplified to: 1120 = -210 +b. Add 210 on both sides and you get the result: b = 1330 so altogether we have the equation: y = -70x + 1330. so in my case it is 1120-840/3-7 = 280/-4 the slope is -70. Now we put the slope in this equation y = mx +b

Making the prediction: The goal that we were supposed to reach was to get our KwH down till 300 KwH. How we can do this is to replace y with our goal, which is 300, and then solve for x. (x being the number of months). In my case it would look like: 300 = -70 x + 1330, then you would -1330 from each side to equal -1030 = -70 x then divide both sides by -70. Then x = 14.21... so it would take approximately 15 months more until I reach my goal, 300.
