COURSE OUTLINE
DEFINITE OBJECTIVES: At the end of this training, the participant should be able to: - Define key concepts. - Find subjects and be conversant with Safety technics necessary for a successful underwater escape. - Systematically find out different sources of safety and dangers during such an emergency situation. TRAINING PROGRAMME: HELICOPTER UNDERWATER ESCAPE


PHASE I: BEFORE EMERGENCY Specific Objectives: At the end of phase I, the participant should be able to: Understand the basics of a Helicopter Take responsibility as passengers Know the embarking and disembarking procedures Be aware of their restrictions Know the safety rules at heli desk Helicopter safety

CONTENTS Introduction to Helicopters. Duties of passengers. Embarking & Disembarking procedures. Restricted Articles, Passenger Baggage, Flight Manifest Safety under the router disk on onshore heli desk Helicopter Safety : DOs and DONTs On ground In the Helicopter When flying over water During an emergency Page 2 of 4

Phase II: ESCAPE TECHNICS Specific Objective: At the end of phase II, the participant should be able to: Understand and master escape technics after the Helicopter has ditched into water

CONTENTS Primary and secondary exits. Bracing for impact. Door and window emergency exits. The rotors jesus pin.

Phase III: BASIC SEA SURVIVAL Specific Objective: At the end of phase III, the participant should be able to: Know the conduct to adopt prior to rescue

CONTENTS Immediate action on coming out of the Helicopter. Rescuing fellow passengers. Introduction to sea survival. Embarking a life raft. Cold weather considerations. Detecting land and beaching techniques, swimming ashore. Basic first aid.

Phase IV: PRACTICE Specific Objective: Putting into practice the information and knowledge from phase II CONTENTS It is conducted in a mockup in the swimming pool. During this Phase, the trainee is taught how to escape from a Helicopter in an upright position and Helicopter turned up side down. Qualified clearance divers and life guards are kept in attendance to ensure highest standards of safety.

PURPOSE This course is a value added course for personnel required to travel over water in helicopters during the course of their duties. It gives a basic working knowledge of emergency procedures / practices involved in self rescue from helicopters involved in offshore emergency situations. The training forms part of the Basic Offshore Safety Courses run by NICKCERY INTERNATIONAL SERVICES for Offshore Petroleum Industry in Central and West Africa. The training involves the use of helicopter escape simulators. The training is of highest quality as NIS is internationally certified for this and many more safety courses ISO 9002 by ABS Quality Inc. Attention is drawn to the physical nature of this course and it is the responsibility of the employer, or individual to ensure that they are fit and able to complete the course without any adverse effects to their health.
