ONE DAY THE WHALE LOOKED OUT OF THE WATER. HE SAW A BIG ELEPHANT. THE WHALE LOOKED AT THE ELEPHANT. HE LOOKED AT THE ELEPHANT'S BIG HEAD. HE LOOKED AT THE ELEPHANT'S BIG FEET.

WHALE: WHO ARE YOU? ELEPHANT: I AM THE BIGGEST ELEPHANT IN THE WORLD. I AM THE KING OF THE WORLD!

CAST: Mother Goose Jack Jill Cat Cow Dog 2 Rhythm Clappers 2 Bakers SETTING: Outdoors. (Mother Goose, off to the side, is reading from a book of nursery rhymes and rocking back and forth in a rocking chair. Jack and Jill go up the hill and Jill pretends to snowboard. Sun is shining behind scene.) Mother Goose: Jack and Jill went up the hill, to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came snow boarding after! Mother Goose: (Mother Goose turns page in nursery rhyme book. Cat, Cow and Dog take positions and act out rhyme.) Hey diddle, diddle, the cat and the fiddle, the cow jumped over the moon; the little dog laughed to see such sport, and then he tried it the next afternoon. Mother Goose: (Mother Goose turns page in nursery rhyme book. Moon is passed to Dog and Cow which they turn into a cake. Rhythm Clappers clap to the song Bakers present cake to Rhythm Clappers.) Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man bake me a cake as fast as you can; pat it and prick it, and mark it with a Z and PROPS/COSTUMES: Cardboard sun and moon;a cake;a pie;rocking chair;book titled "Nursery Rhymes with a Twist";rocking chair for Mother Goose;Costumes: Mother Goose like clothing and little reading glasses. Matching Jack and Jill hats, face make-up for Cat, Cow and Dog. 2 baker's hats, hat for Little Jack Horner.

Oliver

CAST: Narrator Butler Prince Queen Princess Oliver (the gardener) PROPS/COSTUMES: throne (or chair); hand mirror and brush; garden props for gardener (like a small shovel and garden gloves). Costumes: everyday clothes for Narrator; dark suit jacket for Butler; small crowns for Prince and Princess; big crown for Queen; overalls for Oliver.

SETTING: The entrance to the palace and the Queen's chamber. (But you could perform this play in your living room.) (All characters speak with English accents.) Narrator: Once upon a time there was a princess who had the most horrible temper. It was so awful that the queen could do nothing about it. But one day... (Sound of a doorbell.) Butler: Yes? What would you like? Prince: I have come to ask the queen for her daughter's hand in marriage. Butler: Really? Well, wait here while I go ask the queen. Oh, queen? Queen: Yes? Butler: There's a prince out there who wants your daughter to give him a hand. Queen: Really? Well, I'll go tell the princess. Oh, princess? (The princess is busy looking in the mirror and brushing her hair.) Princess: What? Queen:

There is a prince at the door who wants you to give him a hand. Princess: Fine. (Princess claps, applauding.) Queen: Fine. (Queen turns to the Butler.) The princess says . . . (The Queen applauds.) Butler: All right! (Butler returns to the Prince, who is waiting at the door.) The princess says . . . (The Butler applauds.) Prince: What are you doing? Butler: You wanted the princess to give you a hand. Prince: No. I want the princess's hand in marriage. Butler: You want to marry her hand? Prince: No! I don't want just her hand. I want ALL OF HER! Butler: Oliver? Prince: All of her. (Butler returns to the Queen.) Butler: The prince says he wants Oliver. Queen: Oliver? The gardener? Butler: Yes. He wants his hand. Queen: Oh, princess! The prince says that he wants Oliver. Princess:

The gardener? Queen: Yeah. He's handy. (Princess goes to the Prince.) Princess: Are you the prince? Prince: Yes! Yes! Princess: Well, this is Oliver. (Oliver enters with a shovel.) Oliver: You need a hand? (Prince looks at the audience, completely confused.)

NARRATOR 1: The clerks asked her, ALL CLERKS: Which shoes do you choose? NARRATOR 2: Katie said, KATIE: I want shoes that are braggy, not baggy. ALL CLERKS: (thinking about it) Hmmm. Let me see. CLERK 1: We have small shoes, CLERK 2: and tall shoes, CLERK 3: and walk-on-the-wall shoes. CLERK 4: We have red shoes, CLERK 5: and head shoes, CLERK 6: and down-the-hill-sled shoes. CLERK 7: We have blue shoes, CLERK 8: and BOO shoes, CLERK 9: and paddle-canoe shoes. ALL CLERKS: Which shoes do you choose? KATIE: I want shoes that are slicky, not sticky. ALL CLERKS: Hmmm. Let me see. CLERK 1: We have jog shoes, CLERK 2: and log shoes, CLERK 3: and hop-like-a-frog shoes. CLERK 4: We have tied shoes, CLERK 5: and wide shoes, CLERK 6: and carnival-ride shoes. CLERK 7: We have trail shoes, CLERK 8: and snail shoes, CLERK 9: and wind-in-your-sail shoes. ALL CLERKS: Which shoes do you choose? KATIE: I want shoes that are spiffy, not iffy. ALL CLERKS: Hmmm. Let me see. CLERK 1: We have black shoes, CLERK 2: and snack shoes, CLERK 3: and ride-on-a-track shoes. CLERK 4: We have wet shoes, CLERK 5: and pet shoes, CLERK 6: and super-speed-jet shoes. CLERK 7: We have moon shoes, CLERK 8: and goon shoes, CLERK 9: and hot-air-balloon shoes. ALL CLERKS: Which shoes do you choose? KATIE: I choose all these shoes. ALL CLERKS: (gasp) NARRATOR 1: She bought the shoes and took them home. NARRATOR 2: And now the store has ALL CLERKS: (to audience) NO MORE SHOES TO CHOOSE!

Narrator: One bright, sunny day, Chicken-Little was picking up corn in the Barnyard. Suddenly, an acorn from the big oak tree fell down and hit Chicken-Little right on the top of her head.---kerrrr flop. Chicken: Oh! The Sky is falling! The Sky is falling! I am going to tell the King! Narrator: And away she went. Chicken-Little went on and on. After a while she came to CockeyLockey. Cockey: Where are you going, Chicken-Little? Chicken: Oh, Cockey-Lockey. The sky is falling! I am going to tell the king. Cockey: I will go with you!

Turkey: Where are you-all going in such a rush? Goosey: Oh, Turkey-Lurkey. The sky is falling! We are going to tell the king. Turkey: Well, hey, wait for me! I will go with you. Narrator: They went on and on and on. After a while they came to FoxyLoxy. Foxy: going? Say, where are you all

Chicken: (All Cockey: Ducky: together) Goosey: Turkey: Foxy-Loxy! Foxy-Loxy! The sky is falling! We are going to tell the king. Foxy: Well, I know a short cut to the king's palace. Follow me. Cockey: Ducky: Goosey: Turkey: Oh, goody, goody! He knows a short cut to the king's palace! Narrator: They went on an on and on. Then they came to Foxy-Loxy's cave. Foxy: the palace. This is the short cut to I'll go in first and then you come in after me...one at a time. Cockey: Ducky: Goosey: Turkey: Narrator: Sssssnap! head. Kerrrr-POP! head.

Narrator: The went on and on and on. After a time, they came to DuckyLucky. Ducky: Where are you going, Chicken-Little and Cockey-Lockey? Chicken: Cockey: is falling! king! Ducky: you. Oh, Ducky-Lucky! The sky We are going to tell the Wait! I will go with

Cockey: (Excitedly) Chicken-Little! Go Home!

Narrator: Can you guess what happened next? (pause) Kerrrrr-Aaaack! Off went Cockey-Lockey's head. Chicken-Little ran home. She did not tell the king that the sky was falling. And until this day the others have never been seen. And the poor king has never been told that the sky is falling!

STAR 1: OH, WELL. LET'S GET GOING THEN, JACK. WE NEED TO GET THAT WATER. STAR 2: OK, JILL, BUT THIS IS THE LAST TIME I'M GOING TO GO UP THIS HILL. (PICKS UP PAIL) (THEY WALK OFF HAND IN HAND)
