Name: David Fitch

Name of book: The Poky Little Puppy

Plot: A puppy that is always late coming home one night finds there is no dessert for him.

Age group you would recommend for this book: 3-6 Years Old

1. PRE-STORY ACTIVITY –“ATTENTION GETTING” ACTIVITY: Choose one from the following list: Finger Play,
or Finger Play with Props, or Flannel Board Finger Play: Puppet

2. INTRODUCTORY COMMENT: (A comment is recommended. If you ask a question, you have to be prepared
responses.) For this lesson plan, use an introductory comment: I wonder what the poky little puppy is about?

3. FOLLOWING THE STORY: CONCLUDING QUESTIONS

(FOUR QUESTIONS-You generally would ask only one or two, but complete the following four for this assignment.)

1. A question that requires remembering “Recognition and Recall”

Dose anybody remember what the sing say at the end of the story?

2. A question that requires reasoning-“Comprehension and Analysis”

WHY? Why did the puppies dig the hole?

3. A question that requires a “Demonstration of Skills”

SHOW? Can you show me how the puppies dog the hole?

4. A question that requires judgment, imagination, or solution to problems-“Synthesis”

WHAT WOULD YOU DO? What would you do if your puppy kept on getting out?

5. What is your favorite part? (Children answer this!)

6, TRANSITION ACTIVITY (to next activity): Use your finger play with props to dismiss a few children at a time.
Describe how you will do this. Make it short and fun! I will pretend the dog is whispering to me and telling who
is ready to go activity.
